I've played this out a few times and it always goes down well with the 60s fans, a lovely girly dancer. I've heard that its Candy & The Kisses on a Belgian only release? Think Pete Smith may know more. I've never seen the pic sleeve before.

Paul Sindab I Was A Fool was I think also released on Cardinal.

You know what, I thought this rang a bell, I did have it a year or two ago and was certainly told that it was Candy & The Kisses (or a similar girl group), can't remember who I sold it to or for how much though, wasn't a lot.

Is 'Stand By And Cry' the same song as Betty Turner on Imperial, Joel? (t'other side of 'Be Careful Girl'...)

Link doesn't work for me either. I know a nice mid-tempo number penned by Lori Burton, called, 'Stand By And Cry'...Betty Turner (US Liberty), Jan Panter (UK CBS) and Vic Henderson (US Coral - awesome!) all recorded it to good effect...is that the good side?!

Does one know the Vic Henderson version...awesome big vocal beat ballad version! The flipside is a great Popcorn/Northern danceable vocal version of Dizzy Gillespie/Cal Tjader's 'Soul Sauce'!

No, one does not...

One does know that Jan Panter had an absolutely enormous pair of, er, 'headlights', though, and that automatically makes hers the best version even without hearing any of the others!:D:lol::lol:

thanks, when I posted the link the first of the two clips worked. i will try to record it when i get it. it would be interesting if this were candy and the kisses, I'm interested to know what this info comes from. Thanks a lot.

I too have tried spinning it at venues over the years in appropriate rooms.

I always made the assumption that it was Lori Burton (and Pam Sawyer or studio singers in support) singing it but they couldn't use their real names due to contractual obligations elsewhere ( were they Motown contracted songwriters?) She put out material under various labels, some really nice tunes, she could certainly write a song !

Have a listen to "Let No One Come Between Us" from the Lori Burton "Breakout" album on Mercury. Very Similar to the Hopefuls 45, both vocally and arrangements. Happy skip-a-long girlie dancer. Also there's a 45 on Red Rooster rec's by The Puppets "I Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart Out/ Love Is A Beautiful Thing" that could also be sung by the same artists which makes me think they could have put out 45's under various names, or they just liked working with girl groups? ( the flip is the same song Felix Cavaliere/Young Rascals did, except done completely differently)

(btw if anyone has a puppets 45 for sale i'd like one, check your junk/mistake boxes for me please)
