Ronny Boy - Antoinetts on Karen out of Detroit

Ronnie Boy - Rochelle & the Classmates on Betty, allegedly out of Chicago (true? Boba expect your usual lightning reply!)

Slightly different spelling but same song, anyone with the background on which came first etc

Mr. Monkey,

I've always been a big fan of the Antoinetts...not heard Rochelle & the Classmates...different backing track?

:hatsoff2:

"Ronnie Boy - Rochelle & the Classmates on Betty"

Never heard this? Have you a scan/soundfile Mate?

Although the publisher was Ollie Mac the song was written by a B Williams (Who also wrote the flip to the Antionettes release, which could possibly mean that there's a link between the writer and the Antionettes group?

As Karen was the first of Ollie's labels to be instituted after his children's names and Ronny Boy is the 10th release, I'd place the Antionettes at around early '64. (If anyone has any info on the dating of the earlier Karen releases I'd be grateful).

Not much help admittedly but you never know, if someone has the info on B Williams it may help.

Regards,

Dave

Rochelle and the Classmates was the female members of the Paramonts backing a white girl (they don't remember her name). The song was written by Bernice Williams (e.g. the lady who wrote the duke of earl). She didn't remember the Antoinettes at all. The Rochelle record was probably first.

Spot on with the details as ever Bob! :hatsoff2:

Here's the ebay one, great looking label even with the tear huh, soundfile link not working any more but it's less frenetic / more traditionally soulful than the Karen version, will try doing a soundclip when it shows up here

Any chance you're coming over for our Syl show, am sure you've seen him a good few times but it's going to be pretty special we think thumbsup.gif

the lead singer of rochelle & the classmates was rochelle lara.

she has another 45 "steady" released under her own name & later joined the rock group 'the family' who were produced by bobby whiteside and released a few 45s on the u.s.a. label.

is there a differance in rarety or value in the 2 45s.....i have a antoinettes on karen[red label ] ! bit battered but plays ok, regards , ezzie

Don't think the Karen one is too difficult, I picked up a minter for c. $75 and have seen a few at various record fairs since, had never even heard of this Betty one before Chris's auction.

Just seeing this thread (thank you google) and I'm trying to get the 2 Rochelle & the Classmates songs on Betty as well as the second Rochelle Lara single, Jimmy Be Gentle and Midnight. Can anyone help? Any format is okay.

I picked up the Steady single but still seeking the Betty one. I'm compiling for myself a Rochelle CD and would love to find the 2 songs if anyone could help. MP3 is fine and would be willing to pay or trade.
