Indeed. I, for one, shall never remember this truly Golden Era, which produced such fantastic sounds as...er...um...ahem, and those legendary DJ's Whatshsname, Thingy and The Other Fella. The memories are sure to come flooding away to a drought with this wonderful gaming patch. It'll be just like doing the Footsee in Mr N's all over again! Wigon shall never die! This was when the scene went really underground, the privilaged few were let know by word of mouth etc that the casino was still going strong, to passer-bys the place looked closed,but inside the place was rocking,it was sad on the last night as the curtain came down 23/09/85 .

Perhaps all the guys who missed out on this classic time, will now stop compaliaing when records by Phil Collins or The Gap Band are sold on ebay as northern Soul.

That night they dropped the demo version of Collins' version of - You Cant Hurry Love. What a cracker.

Not often you see Dust bin Stanley and fatwah in the same sentence.

No, you usually see fatwah without the "h" and with "nker" in its place.

Nice to see so many people(including myself have bought Tim Browns "The Wigan Casino Years")

A few lines in that book could also be used in this thread to slag of certain other people also,

Russ had his faults and so did a few other dj's at the time of The Casino,

Also many at previous nighters,

Have a read about certain promoters and artists "Booting" records(at the Torch) in the "Casino Years" ,

It makes me sick reading replies like the ones of this nature concerning Russ, it is very unlikely that Wigan Casino soul club would ever have happened without him imo, it would not be so bad if Russ was a on here reading this shit then he could reply! if you want to call Him names at least do it facing Him.

OK I apologise for the Fatwa**** jibe. It was actually mean't in jest, because yes, you usually have a load of people slagging him off. I knew Russ pretty well from the pre allnighter days when we used to go to hear sounds at his market stall, and later at the allnighters and various alldayers round the country. He was always OK with me. In fact at a Burnley Rose room alldayer he even played a couple of records for me. I had asked if he had any room in his car to give me a lift nearer to my home. He couldn't, but he did ask over the mic if anyone could. he then played me two records. One by Dee Edwards, and the other by Donna King:thumbsup: rolleyes.gif .:thumbup: . Oh how I laughed.
