Wiggyflat
Our second event at this great venue on Southend Seafront. The lineup myself, Stanford Jim, Brian Rae and Dick Coombes.....last knockings Brian Rae had to drop out due to health reasons. Get well soon Brian....last minute ringing around and Ex Leeds Central deejay Twink steps into the booth.Mr Twink has an interesting CV ....It was 69 and he was buying records from Julian Bentley via Simon Soussan who Julian went to tec college together in Leeds.1970 visiting the Okeh club in Keighley and Flash Atkinson with his Gladys Knight stuff......on to the Torch in 72 and started deejaying at Leeds Central with Ian Dewhirst.....74 Julian Bentley got an emidisc machine and they started doing alternative mixes...speeding up and slowing down records...borrowing stuff from Keith Minshull and paying with EMI's of stuff he didn't have....75 newer sounds taking over and Twink didn't like it and got out...anyway he's back now. A full house again over 200 in the place inc Tony Class who was dancing.Talc lovers were doing their stuff and a lot of xmas merriment had by all.I did the early spot with Jim .Had to do a bit of tweaking with the sound (sub woofer!!) system. Great sets by all although maybe a bit of Tamla overkill on Twink's part.Nice to see Dick Coombes do a full on northern set again.Northern soul is thriving in Essex.........roll on the next one.
