A while back I was trying to get some information on a 45 by Grady Price and someone posted that it was another Burnley record. Could someone please tell me what that means?

Obviously been going constantly to all-nighters for 50 years as you must have been has affected your reading,.

A, I didn't question its worth, in fact I highlighted its likely worth in first paragraph.

B. I didn't criticise its mix of music, I guffawed loudly at comparing it to Stafford, or any other truly ground breaking venue, because no matter how much you and your tempo terrorists want to convince yourself it wasn't and will never be deserving of a place in that category.

C. I didn't express it directly but I suppose I am questioning your definition of a Burnley sound, I suspect it would be more accurate to call it a Karl Heard sound, which arguably was also being played elsewhere long before that by people like Paul Sadot, Marco Santucci and some other of the young bucks I suspect,

D. My point about the gap is very relevant, as lots of the records I heard about had been knocking about, and lots had been swapped by many of us on the legendary tapes of the 80's, thats actually not a criticism, its a praise as I think most of the great collectors venues I went to or were involved were built on this,and it means the guys picking the records are really listening and digging hard, which in my book is great,. It still does not make the venue anything like a legendary venue, other than for those few who made it their own.

And I suppose that's back to my original point, in some ways I am jealous of you guys having such a genuine devotion to a venue,and the continued belief that is a workable proposition and one that will keep digging new ground. In many ways its what the progressive scene needs and is its only, unlikely as this is now, potential saviour, The fact that Karl is at the helm, combining his excellent taste with all round nice guyness, I suspect is a massive positive, Under its old form it just was not convincing enough for me, and many others thinking of the numbers, to buy into, partly because of the trusted reports from people and partly due to the tempo terrorism coming from the people who did "get it".

You are right in me not wanting to get it, but only because it was a poor substitute, for my type of taste, for what had went before. I don't think I am alone in that thinking.

I wont even bother with your numpty like comment about Stafford and mid-tempo, I'll put it down to snow crazyness, but I am amazed at how you kept going to all these all-nighters through 80's and nineties bored out your skull because almost all the nighters I went to then had same tempo mix as Stafford!

Anyway, last comment, not sure why I care, as its unlikely to appear on my radar, probably just the usual of finding it hard not to present an alternative view when people often only hear those who shout loudest, I genuinely wish Karl all the best on this one, sure I may pop in just out of respect for Karl, although given this year it may be 2017 before I am seen out again..........................

karl heard is not the burnley sound just a part of it. Lost count of the times when a dj states heres a few from stafford....collective f**king groan down goes the night (not that some of the records ain,t brill soul ) just wrong when they get played. Trouble is you seem to listen to people and then do a lot of guessing. Went to stafford just as much as you and a lot of the time it was dreary, burnley is never that so l say again burnley beats it hands down.......l,ve been to both you,ve been to one. I know you favour the more polished leaning towards the modern because i,ve heard you dj, it ain,t for me......... fine if thats what ya like..........o.k in the car , bores me to tears on a night out. As far as keep going to these nighters through the 80,s & 90,s l said in my first reply "l got fed up with the same ol same ol ,but should of added dreariness of it all

it was a mix of the dj,s not any one dj as l said you don,t get it and as l also said you don,t wanna get it. Like what you like,have a moan if somethings not very good...........not if it,s good

What is a Burnley record? - It's a tune or type of tune that takes a person 'back to Burnley'. In this context, It doesn't suggest / mean that the said tune was necessarily played there first.

We all have records that take us back to where we personally associate them with. The same can also happen with DJ's. "That's a 'So and so' record" doesn't always mean 'So and so' played it first, it means that person just happens to associate that particular DJ with that type of record.

It's basically a compliment to the venue as it shows it had it's own identity. Which as Joan pointed out earlier, the new Burnley will no doubt have a slightly different identity as it's Karl's and Sean's take on it from now on.
