hi steve, l've still got the Bell copy, the other one was an ERIC records re-issue that

l disguised as a real one by putting faked label scans off my original (in colour) of A & B

sides. and it fooled everyone!!!

My first NORTHERN soul Emidisc was a 4-track EP: "(I Love Her So Much) It Hurts Me - The Majestics / You've Been Away - Rubin / Fortune Teller - Benny Spelman / Hurt - The Victors". Quality was very cassette-standard, but then it was my first!

I had a couple , I bought one (unknowingly)that had been lifted off the Casino stage back in 74ish. I'm not sure what was on both sides , but one was Jeanette Williams - All of a sudden . I nearly got my funkin fingers broke for it to . Thank you Mr JB from Derby !!!!!

I have the Wille Mitchell Hi EP but I still play this one out.....all the 'clappy' sound I don't like is 'bassed' out...it sounds brilliant!!!

It's on refosoul as 'Willie Mitchell Acetate'....listen and you'll see what I mean....it's got everything...squeaks, change of volume but it's the bizz!!!!

The handwriting that you're refering to belongs to a guy called ANDY KAGGAN from southport

who sold ACETATE LAQUERS ( emidiscs) of top nighter tunes in the record bar at Wigan.

they were cut by Derek Tompkins from Kettering in a small workshop that repaired washing machines

and vacuum cleaners. The sound quality was excellent because derek was a sound engineer

at BECK AMPLIFICATION in Wellingborough NORTHANTS

I had a couple much earlier than that from collections, one was Bill Blacks Combo, not Little Queenie, but Joesphine! Another was a Capitols track, possibly called Tired of running from you, bit vague now. Also had a shocking quality white label record, pressed on proper vinyl not acetate, of Earl van Dyke - Six By Six, recorded off the decks at the Chateau Impney believe it or not.

No martyn..that handwriting belongs to Andy Kaggan (aka case) who used the same studio in kettering owned by Derek Tompkins who was a sound recording engineer at BECK Amplification in Wellingborough..which explains why the discs sounded perfect. and just to clarify a definition...EMIDISC is a trade name..E.M.I. manufactured these discs for use in cutting studios to record and instantly play back music or speech to check the sound quality before a "master" disc was cut and processed into a stamper enabling multiple copies to be pressed onto vinyl. Although emi-discs are sometimes refered to as "acetates"..there is NO acetate in them at all...the lacquer coating is made from cellulose nitrate which is very combustible so care has to be taken when cutting because the 'threads' or 'swarf' produced by the heated saphire cutting stylus, can ignite if exposed to a nearby naked flame or incandescent surface. EMI no longer make lacquers, a french company called PYRAL DISQUE supplied most of the UK's cutting suites, but now a company in the USA called "TRANSCO-APOLLO supply the remaining cutting suites with lacquer discs..they have a shop in Wardour Street, Soho, London. My first two acetates were Tobi Legend / Dena Barnes , and Drifters " Dues " / Edward Hamilton " Baby " , ordered them from Soul Galore ,Birmingham , about £4 each ? There was a guy in Wigan record bar who sold loads every week , you could smell them as you entered the record bar ...got Little Anthony / Lou Pride off him , about £6 I think ....great at the time , when we were young and these top sounds were out of our reach ...Eddie
