apparently played at the Wheel ,another version by JimmyJames is just as good.

Well me and Steve played both versions at our Sunday night do's in Heywood, and I'm pretty sure it's had airings the revived Wheel nights, but it definitely deserves a wider exposure, it's cheap too!

BTW don't request a soundbite as I have neither the technology or the skills required

all you need is a PC which plays sound (if not, you're into technical stuff like soundcards which i don't understand, but which i'm told is easy) and some decks (you may have to buy a lead from the back of your amp to the back of your PC but richer sounds do them for about a fiver)

then (and thanks to mark vaultofsouler etheridge for this) you go online and download polderbits, costs i think £25 for lifetime.

start polderbits, play your record, press 'record' and you create a file which you can upload in about 15 seconds. really is that simple (i speak as a technophobe tony) .

Hi Tony,

both version are great (imho) I have played both out in the past. Dells on Argo, JJ on Atco and New Religion LP. Not sure if I've heard anyone else spin though.

new religion lp came out on atco in the states, called come to me softly i reckon best tracks aint no big thing, and little boy blue, come to me softly on piccadilly issue went on e-bay last week for less han a fiver!!dness should be worth 20 times that imho

used the atco version as a ender a few times recently and seems to go well

..... How Atlantic Records in the U.S. got wind of them is anyone's guess, but their Atco label issued, a mere two years late, a version of the B-side of James' second Piccadilly single. It wasn't, however, the same track; "Come To Me Softly" in its US version runs 2:45 (versus 3:25 for the British release), and while either way you get a ballad written by James himself and sung like Chuck Jackson with the rough stuff buffed off, the American release has sweetly-singing strings and sweeping piano arpeggios all over the place, not just during the instrumental break. The backing tracks are entirely different, so it's not a case of postproduction overdubbing. Atco followed with a Come To Me Softly album (33-222), containing a 3:20 version with a longer break; in typical American fashion, it turned out to be otherwise a truncated version of the Vagabonds' Piccadilly LP (The New Religion).

The label is Hanna Barbara Records, remember all the cartoons by the company, well they also did records. Only ever seen one other release on the label though.

back on topic, JJ's version of "Hi Diddley" etc. was one of my favourite choons on its original release - and yet, to this day I've never heard the Dells version. now where's me headphones.....

Oh dear - maybe my brain is going to sleep - "Come to me softly" was never the flip of "Red Red Wine " in the US - that was "No good to cry". Forget I ever mentioned it...
