We have discussed on these pages before the fact that 60s "hits" are infinitely rare on Promo than corresponding non-hits in the same category. Here is another such example, Motown's biggest hit of that year, but as a promo copy it's a near impossible piece to secure.

This copy is in absolutely beautiful condition with two immaculate labels, close inspection of the vinyl only reveals a few tiny light surface sleeve contact blemishes - otherwise this is Mint - throughout.

Note of historical interest: in October 1966 EMI changed the DEMO label colouring from Red & White to Green and White, this 45 was the FIRST Green and white promo in the 500 series.

A rare double helping of Montgomery, Alabama SOUL. With Ted Ford providing the lyrics and the personal pain, sending a message to his lady that he just can't give her up. This is Southern Soul at it's Deepest, as Mr. Ford displays yet again his convincing skill of coating every word with despair.

As if to testify he's now "got all that hurt off my mind" let's get up and then get right down dirty and FUNKY and chase these blues away. The flip offersJB style FUNK. A prompting bass-line collides with brass, with Ted in a much better mood, as he whips up a dance groove littered with "real Soul" lyrics..

Two great sides of Alabama local-soul. This copy has some very light surface marks but plays well as Ted's rasping vocal washes through an occasional light pop...

Are you a Brit-Soul vinyl collecting completest? Here is a unique UK 7" - Pye International studio acetate of two USA Chess recordings back to back.

Topside, is so very highly desirable, as it never received UK or USA release as a single. Fontella flexes her vocals on a delicious jazzy soul version of "How Glad I Am" this recording was only issued as a track on the lady's incredibly rare album UK Chess 4517 gold logo "The New Look".

Flip it over for a 1962 MOD hammond dance classic! So classic in 1964 British group the Johnny Howard Band did a fine cover version - in the wake of Dave Baby Cortez's all-night-club popularity.

There is no need for us to underline this acetates exclusivity - we believe it is most likely unique and looks so darn beautiful too.

When your talking about truly rare Chicago vocal-group Northern Soul this 45 never ever pops up in conversation, perhaps because so few collectors have seen, heard or danced to this outrageously fine testament to those streets that literally spewed remarkable independent productions throughout it's history.

This Doc Oliver and Carmen Dello project with a male group (not the Detroit girls) showcases primitive vocal-group harmony lifted by strong trumpet backing, and soaring vocal pitched against a Bass vocal. The allurement recordings like this offer is totally bewitching for the dedicated rare-soul collector. For me it carriers the same qualities, as the likes of Walter & The Admirations etc. 60s vocal group soul with not a note of commercial influence in the whole production.

This copy has flawless vinyl - small bb drill on the label - flipside label has a small sticker removal blemish.

In the year 2012 records of this quality, with near mint vinyl are for the most of the time just a distant soul-vinyl-addicts dream!

An iconic MOD 45 - does not get anywhere close to describing this seldom 1962 UK press.

At the peak of the USA DANCE craze, this Philadelphia conceived "The Wah-Watusi" hit big - very big. Barry Mann's & Dave Appell's composition has lived on in Hollywood and Brit movies ever since, "The Wanderers" and of course "Quadrophenia" to name a few.

Before you today is the British 1962 release that flopped on release and unlike the USA Britain was too immersed in "The Twist" for it to receive any significant airplay. Consequently those pioneering All-Night Club DJs had another exclusive to spin and transform into a club-classic.

This original UK 45 sat at the forefront of the embryonic MOD scene and today is ridiculously difficult to acquire. Especially in this so very nearly Mint minus condition.

Is there such a thing as "Fuzz-Brass"? because 45 emits a most unusual and near uniquely delivered horn-sound, enhancing the angry-growling lead vocal to addictive levels.

I personally can't get enough of this 1965 Chick Carlton creation - it's certainly an addictive n' irresistible Northern Soul potion, made from brass n' attitude!

I can actually remember buying the Hot Wax 114 single on recommendation from a Blue & Soul review. It was after-all on one of my favourite labels at the time. Being a young lad with limited experience of Soul Music - I'd heard nothing of the like in my life - hallucinatory FUNK sailed straight over my head or should I say through my head.

Today this "before-it's-time" album is considered one of the greatest 70sFUNK albums of all time. Band members Melvin Griffin, McKinley Jackson, Roderick Chandler, Clarence Robinson & Z. Slater conjure up wave after wave of Tsunami proportion FUNK instrumentals.

So when I read the back-cover and see the involvement of such Detroit luminaries as Ron Dunbar, Lawrence T. Horn, Barney Perkins, Brian Holland, Betty Slaten, Johnny Allen, Edyth Wayne, Rusty Day & Lamont Dozier. It is little wonder something special occurred in Detroit that day.

NOTE this example is a immaculate 1972 British release...oh so very RARE!

But it's one of the most overpriced records around, suddenly went from 75 to 125 to 175 to 225 and upwards. I had 2 last year think I sold one for 200 and one for 225 and that was because they were commission sales, had they been mine they'd have been cheaper.

I paid 50 quid for a copy sold it for 75 or 80 about a year later and thought I had done quite well.

that doc oliver thing sounds interersting his 45 on lucky labels is brilliant uptempo but quite messy so an aquired taste.

The Embracers is Okay, nowhere as good as Otis Leavill on the same label, too Doo-wop for the Northern scene imo, Pat Brady had it on his list a few years back at 200, I got one from the US for peanuts along with Doc Oliver!

He has two 45s on Lucky, one on Janus, and a late 70s one that I forget the label for.

Doc Oliver is deceased and I asked everyone who was connected to him if they knew the Embracers, one guy remembered them but could give me no info. I recently figured out that he's somehow related to Fran Oliver (as he produced to her recordings), maybe if I find her she might have some info. Probably not though.
