Next to Lynn's flower box there was a jeans shop(not in the photo£ what was its name ?

This is where I went instead of school whe I was 15

met l loads of people Who were into the soul scene at the time

The shop wss run by Neil st John ( noddy) and Derrick Fantom

Those of you that frequented the place at the time what are your

Lynne who owned the flower box married Derrick think she used to go to the twisted wheel just before it closed in 71

I can just about remember the Record Centre but I'd have still been at school at the time.

Me and my mate Al Millington used to go in regularly...not sure what happened to Noddy didn't he get busted and then went off the scene?

The Record Shop changed it's name to "Some Kinda Mushroom" and was run by Stuart Smith who now runs the men's fashion shop Zebra, this is located on the same road as the Winding Wheel.

Always had a striong sweet smell about the place !

I thought went I saw the photo ,and when Bully mentioned Some Kinda Mushroom that it did'nt look like the shop I knew. I have racked my brain for years now trying to remember where abouts in Chesterfield it was( the original shop ) . All I can remember is there where records boxed up by the thousand on display in the middle of the room. I loved shops like that , Daves Surplus in Derby , Freddie Crooks in Heanor , all treasure troves. Alas , Alan Day of The Torch fame dropped onto Dave Surlus and Freddie Crooks and raided the joints .

If you look at this picture it's on the opposite side to cavadish motors just about where the car that is traveling towards the camera

Up until last year it was "real time music"selling instruments music and music lessons

In 1978 I paid 50p for the taj mahal album natch'l blues this has ain't that a lotta love on it It was in one of those boxes upstairs in the mushroom

In 78 this tune was a massive big floor stomper at Wigan

I did not realise that it was first played back in the 60's at the wheel

Roy Harrison told me that the wheels copy was the album cut down to 7 inch proportions don't know if this is true or if it was ever realeasd in the 60's as a single ??

Yeh, Loved that place. Some Kinda Mushroom moved down from the end of Newbold Road and Stewart was the guy that ran it ?? He now has the 'Nice' Clothes shop next to the Winding Wheel.

Used to call in every Saturday and check out the stuff he had. Regular haunting ground for many of the Chessy Soul Boys and Girls - That and Birlington Grill !!

I can't remember who I sold it to and we had the import version shortly after the Wheel closed.

It was Spike. Stuart was and still is a nice guy but more into Flower Power than Power Stompers.

Was a business though and catered for all. Remember when Punk was big and they opened the door to the Safety Pin Brigade. It was always a meeting place, a focal point in little ole Chesterfield. Samantha's Friday Night, back to town to The Burlington Grill, down to The Record Centre to see if you could get a copy of 'that record' they played last night them into The Painted Wagon to plan our assault on The Casino that night.

Spike the album was a CBS sampler in 1968 called Rock Machine I love you it had artist like Simon and Garfunkle,The Byrds,Big Brother and the holding company etc etc on it.

It was a budget price album follow up to another Rock Machine album>

I got the cut down version in early 69 and started playing at the Wheel in April 69, I think the album was released 68.

Taj Mahal had just released a single on Direction at the time.

I was at the shop when it first opened in 1973 working with Neil and stayed for about a year. Dont remember anybody called Derrick Fantomso he must have started after I left.

I used to call in to see Neil in 1973..don't know where he is now...last time I saw him was at Owlerton Dog Track around 1978...top bloke....Chris
