I'm trying to find out for a friend about some info on this track. Apparently when it was being played in the clubs originally it was often speeded up? Does anyone know who the first DJs were to play it and how much it was speeded up by (although appreciate this could vary!). Also - would the DJ with the original acetate of it have played it at it's normal speed?

Cheers!

Just a thought, is it the Originals unissued version, or could it be the speeded up version booted in the early 80's as the Detroit Prophets your friend is thinking of?

this topic has been discussed and bottomed at some length here are the last two threads on the subject, hopefully giving you an answer.

As far as I know, it was just the 'Advance' boots from 1984 that were speeded up - and by that, I mean sped up by a hell of a lot. I've heard acetates from around this time (mine included) and they all seem to play at the right speed. "Lonely Lover" by Marvin Gaye also suffered the same fate.

The speeded up boots were an accident, well the tape player they took them off recorded/played at a faster speed than it should have. Tape player was on speed
