.. bought a record recently. was well pleased with the price i got it for, though not using sniper program then knocked 20$ more from my pocket as a friend placed a bid few seconds too early and allowing 2nd bidder to bid up. ok, no big deal.

record described as NM if not for one scuff which doesn't affect play.

record arrived, i was hit with the custom fee (30$) - seller stating the full value. this wasn't mentioned on seller's page.. she changed that for their future sales after i pointed out. i would bid accordingly if i knew i was going to be hit with custom fee.. and seller is willing to cover that fee.

but the biggest problem is that the record is nowhere NM grade! that scuff isn't affecting play but there are other thigs that do. B side (part 2) which i wanted to play out as well is ful of crackles. record looks like VG to VG+, has marks and little scratches. side A plays OK, definitely not NM, side B plays much much worse. seller is telling me that it is NM.. not offering return for refund, partial refund..i wanted to send pictures and audio so she can see and hear. respected seller, has a great feedback.

what should i do? if asking for refund, how much should i ask?

What is the record?

Some crackles are due to vinyl records are pressed on.

crackles are not from the pressing. when you look at the record you kinda know it's gonna be "fun"

If described as near mint and is only vg, give him e the chance to do something if no joy file a complaint, not as described.

what happens when you file a complaint?

if the seller goes along with the complaint and refunds your money in full, you have to send the item back with tracking and get a full refund for price paid (but not return shipping). paypal will generally find in your favor. i just did a search for this in completed auctions and found this record in two listings. neither looked like a "respected seller" of records at least, and if they changed their entire customs policy based on your complaint they don't seem like an experienced record seller.

This one was graded NM-. You should think that this would be a very nice copy, but after studying his grading system, it seems that his NM- may actually only correspond to other sellers' VG+. He uses two grading scales, and I generally don't think that his system is very good.

I never even saw "NM-" until a few years ago and still maintain it's a BS grade. the "N" stands for near, if it's not near it's VG++. Also, that seller doesn't have particular high grading DSRs and has a grading neg. Plus the customs thing shows they are not used to selling soul 45s overseas.

even his 8 or NM- plays perfect

this copy simply isn't that. crackles on b side especially, many little scratches

seller is ignoring my messages now and that is REALLY pissing me off

oh yes, and when i said i'm gonna post this on one respectfull forum, providing pictures and audio.. and if everybody say that it's overgraded i want 50% refund (custom fee included). seller said - well everybody is entitled for opinion.

well i thought that goldmine standard is there just because of that - so that everyone CAN'T have their own opinion

stop communicating with the seller and open up a paypal claim. all messaging should go through that. the seller doesn't want to deal with you and isn't going to answer your messages until forced to.

It is irrelevant who's paypal was used to purchase the item as far as I know. If you file a complaint it will go through the account you have used, your sisters in this case and any money returned will be put back into this account. File a complaint using "not as described" and see what happens. Those that fail to correspond usually do so when one of these are filed. He has obviously taken you for a ride so f*ck em is how I think when it comes to dealing with them if they don't reply to correspondence.

Absolutely, I've never even heard of that grade but now that I have, I can't believe someone invented it. It's EX or EX+ basically. Near Mint means played two or three times. Near Mint Minus, whats that mean, played six or seven times?

In my experience, sometimes sellers use NM- for NM records when they want to be sure not to disappoint buyers, but more often it seems to be a way to create false expectations or camouflage that the record is really only VG+ or VG++. Sometimes I have been disappointed with NM- records and other times they have been really nice and lived up to my expectations. But overall, I don’t like the grade because it’s tough to tell if the seller is trying to be careful with his grading or if he wants to make buyers think that the condition is better than what it actually is.

The way I understand NM- is that it must be VERY slightly below NM, but that does not appear to be how sellers use it.

this ebay seller is a fantasy grader.

i had an issue with this seller and bulldozed them into giving me £100 off a £250 tune AND got my customs money back by simply saying ill give you feedback as i find. ie appalling grading and serial customs form filler.

sadly you may have got a sniff of my (and no doubt others') shitstream. sounds like they've toughed up a bit.

although there is no excuse for grading, I'm surprised at the attitude here that sellers should be negged for not automatically falsifying customs forms.
