It's a terrible pop record even for Wigan and the pop stuff it played. i mean why go to Wigan Casino to hear this tripe when I guess you could go to any disco/club/youth club in any town to hear it? Maybe many of those who don't know it have just erased it from their minds? I guess you had to be shit faced.

Ah but its history goes back way before M's Chalky.

I could understand it being played on a scene still finding its feet that still relied upon tracks from pop acts of the time but years later when there was so much good stuff about? Still one mans fodder and all that.

I'm far from a chin stroker, i love it all from the cheesiest of oldies right up to today, I love good uptempo dance music when I'm out but it has to at least resemble soul music not crap like this. Like I said one mans fodder and all that.

Any DJ or venue though that resorted to this today though i'd like to know so I can avoid.

I can chinstroke with the best of 'em, Bazza so Im not suggesting that this 45 is ripe for re-activation just because some dont know it.

It is of a time and place. For me and Mark S long before M's. In 2013 it really has no place, based on the wealth of so much better music, outside of a night designed to capture that era. Even back then I woulda swapped Wayne for Impressions,Fascinations,Contours etc without hesitation.

It does take me back when I hear it and in fact two good sides of 60's pop.

As an aside my mum used to work with Wayne's mum at McVitie's in Levenshulme.

I don't think Bazz was advocating every venue play it Chalky, just that it was forgotten, and to be honest I really like to hear these Youth Club records now and again when I haven't heard them for years. I don't like it much either but I can understand why people do, especially people who were on the scene before me. Same as Frankie Valli, Newbeats - I think you had to be there to see what impact this sort of record did have in the early, pre-import days.

Rod I agree, I would not like to see it getting plays again really ,not saying its a great tune ,my point was ,I would have thought it was well known,yet some folk have never heard of it ,yes it was in the charts ,well the A side was

Definately a record of its time and a good dance record albeit pop fits the northern soul template well as many white artists have .

I used to look after his bass players cat he lived a few doors down from me in Portwood .

Wayne sultana and the banana benders, remember it well down the youthy.

Saw him sing it live at the Amsterdam Bar in Huddersfield C1980. He invented the bar top Cayote Ugly dance routine there and then as he delivered the lead vocals from among the Timothy Taylor's and Colt 45 beer taps.

Bazza, I agree, it is the same for all eras, they've all got their share of turkeys. But I can't understand why this would be popular, even in an oldies room when there are far better oldies about at the time. I ain't understand an underground soul club (I know not everything was soul) would play a top twenty hit? I thought that was what everyone went to get away from?

I know you wasn't advocating that it should be reactivated.

I guess if you missed the late 60's and didn't do Mr M's where Pete says it was popular then I guess you missed this.
