Exactly what I thought, saw my first cassette recorder about '71 I think.....but it wasn't a portable one.

 

Had a quick google of the history of the cassette and apparently it was Phillips who brought them out in 1962!!

 

There's not much background noise on the tape....could it have been done through the house system? 

I recorded live at a Cleos all-dayer 1976 (still got it) its not as quality as the Torch one

I don't think they were available in the UK until 66 or thereabouts.

That tape seems to have been done from a line out.

..Yeah I agree chaps...the quality is excellent...not sure if cassette recorders back then were compatible to 'hook up' with the in house sound systems. Maybe there is some 'software' out there that can 'eradicate background noise ??

 

If it was placed on the stage...am sure there would deffo have been some background noise.....if only... 'HEY YOU !! get ya thieving mitts of me fookin cassette recorder' lol

 

Agree with Gilly ..they were a rarity back then (along with cameras),,plus the batteries didn't last long....he/she musta kept it pretty well out of sight..woulda been a prime target to get 'rolled'

 

The big Hi tech item of the day was the 'discatron'   

This was recorded by Dennis Haw who is a member on here, credit where it's due...I'm sure he'd be happy to answer any questions about it.

This tape was put on cd by me for Paul Donnelly to sell for charity a few years back at the torch reunion. I will see if i can improve the sound quality. Priceless recording

And I'm assuming that tape was a copy that I made off my original for Tony Jebb, when he made a special Guest appearance there back in the days of Blackpool Winter Gardens. Don't remember what year that was but it was when they had the R&B room at the back / far end of the main dance hall.

The quality came from the fact that I was sat on top on one of the big speakers on the stage with the portable tape cassette recorder between my legs. I was quite well known even back then for being a bit eccentric.

Don't know where Chris Lalor got it from but it wasn't from me. He may have taken a copy off Tony Jebb, or perhaps taken the copy I gave to Tony?

 

I still have the original cassette recorder that I recorded it on. Talk about being a hoarder.

I wasn't well off Gilly, just careful with my money. 

And NOBODY was going to take anything off me in those days. There weren't many Scousers on the scene in those days, but we looked out for each other wherever we were. 

Does this Sound Cloud recording jump for everybody around 1 hour 2 minutes? Or is it just my computer?

I've got this playing on my PC in my record room and I'm lying on the sofa in the front room. I can hear the dj crystal clear, it's like being there. I just missed out on the Torch but God, I wish I had'nt.
