The Story of Northern Soul

Writer and cultural historian CP Lee explores the strange world of Northern Soul music, which first came to Britain in the early 1960s. This underground cultural phenomenon was driven by a love of black American artists who had failed to make a success in the USA.

Contributors include designer Wayne Hemingway, producer Ian Levine, DJ Jo Wallace and Stuart Cosgrove

A few there with very big gaps in their CVs. I don't think this will be too comprehensive of the last 45 years; maybe that club in Wigan will get a mention. I'm not bitter though. :glare:

You're right Ady, nothing will have happened since 1981 until NS was miraculously reborn circa 1996

My God, lets wheel out the same old same old. Maybe get the wide trouser world champion to give us his insight.

CP's a great bloke. He has a fantastic and wide ranging record collection. He introduced me to loads of obscure R&B in the 70's and 80's. He was a big pal of Roger Eagle and did the eulogy at his funeral.

He was also in Alberto y lost trios paranoias, funniest live band I ever saw.

Not saying the programme will be any good, just glad that CP's getting some work from the beeb.

Agreed; it ain't his fault!

You do know that for some the mere mention of the BBC is enough to stimulate a biscuit wank fest of self intoxicating mythologising......I'm just saying.....and reaching for a carefully placed scarf.....

I fell into a pair of giant trousers in 1980 and have just found my way out. :(  What year is it?
