hi, i've been collecting northern since i was 11 i'm now 41. i will aways love the music but i rarely go to soul nights (not been to a nighter for years) but i never seem to get time to play my records about 2000 45's and 500 lps am i being selfish as they are rarely listened to. has anyone sold their collections i would like some input whether they have regreted it later on?

dont sell unless you need the money mate, and then only if you are desperate, you will miss em when they are gone, just my opinion

don't need the money it's just that they sit there unplayed lifes very busy at the moment

I've got a couple of bass guitars and bass amps, bass speaker cabinets PA amps and cabinets how about a swap ......................

.......................only kidding as you can see I hold onto everything and if I had a collection like yours it would certainly stay put.....

i dont play mine either, im sure a lot on here are the same,but if you have made your mind up make sure u put em all on to cd or mp3 first

I'll up that to 51p ....seriously though I sell records to buy and it still makes me feel sick when I'm posting 'em out.

it depends on whether you want the sounds on vinyl or just enjoy the music

you could transfer all the tunes to mp3 and have them on an ipod and backed up on dvds so you have all the music still just not in the same format as before

you would also get a nice sum for your collection , but in the end its got to be your decision.

i have sold off quiet afew of my 45s that i have got on cd and mp3 and bought afew tracks that are not on cd on 45s and put the rest of the cash in the bank till i find some others that i want

keep listening to the music and dont worry about the format

now I may cause some controversy here, but records are designed to be played, and not to just sit on a shelf or in a box slowly warping, and missing the feel of human flash....

let them give pleasure to someone else.

I sold my collection to Mick Smith over 15 years ago. I must admit i had stopped going to Soul allnighters and had got really into the House thing! I had a great collection then, even if i do say so myself !! I could bore you with a pages of quality tunes (Monsters) that i let go but i will not! I could bore you with the records i paid twenty quid for that are now worth hundreds...but i wont!

All i will say is that my intrest/love for 6ts Soul was temporarily obscured by other things. Music and Drugs had changed at that point in the early 9ts and things seemed to move on - But like a little flame burning somewhere deep inside, I started to seek out the old 6ts vinyl again years later. I started collecting again!

Be careful buddy because if it is really in your Soul what is the point of letting it go, only to realize later that it is such an important thing!

Dont sell your Soul! You might want it back someday!

Sold my collection in 1990, regret some of the stuff that went but my tastes have changed over the years and am really into 70's and Modern now so dont really miss them. Besides, for me at least, its always been about the Soul on whatever format is available, be that vinyl, CD, MP3 etc and now with 3 kids life has a funny way of pointing out what is important in life. If you need to sell then do so mate, make copies of the sounds B4 you do, and remember its about the music not the format at the end of the day.

GET PLAYING THEM !!!!!!!!!!! AND GET YOURSELF OUT !!!!!!!!! BLIMEY YOUR ONLY 41...............AND DON'T SELL'EM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY TO THE UNSCRUPULOUS ROGUES ON HERE

You need to listen to me cos I know all about this dilemma. What you want to do is get a 50 or a 100 box, and go through the records asking yourself "could I live without this record". Eventually you'll fill the box, but only just. I've just done this with over 1000 reggae and ska 45's and I've kept around 120. Sell the rest and do something nice with the dosh.

I think you should maybe hang on to them, listen to them and perhaps invest in a few more. That Victor Knight you've been listening to for example .. One on Manship right now, treat yerself ..
