You know what its like: late at night after a few drinks too many and probably a row with your partner. You reach for your favourite sad record to wallow in and play very loud.

Maybe a bit of Walter Jackson or Luther Ingram or BB Kings the Thrill is gone if its really bad. Just recently been hammering William Bells LP this is where I live. But for the depths of despair I go for something by Little Anthony like hurt so bad.

Of course it doesnt make you feel any better for very long

Whats your go to sad song?

Another sad song favorite of mine since was published in 1976: "This Is Your Life" by Jerry Butler (specially the intro). Despite the fact I'm a Philly Soul fan I prefer the two Jerry Butler's albums on Motown "Love's On The Menu" and "Suite For The Single Girl" than the two Gamble & Huff eras on the singer career (late 60's on Mercury / late 70's on PIR). This one is the last side B track of "Love's On The Menu", writed by Lionel Ritchie.

How good is this vid - absolute magic. Loads of different artists have done this. My favourite Nina Simone is just top trumped by this video masterpiece. Sammy Davis Junior - Mr Bojangles. Beautiful.

Its a beatuful video and Sammy is perfect for it. I suspct that in his interpretation of the song he’s Mr Bojangles and he’s singing about himself.

Now that pulls on the heartstrings 👌

Another superb song culled from Bobby's Poet 1 album. Stunning vocals from the man himself, matched key for key by the female harmonies/backing. You just cannot beat Bobby, well, occasionally perhaps.

If you think you're lonely now.

Chuck Jackson-Getting Ready for the Heartbreak on Wand. The man sounds absolutely crushed.

More than the better known "Free Man", my absolute favorite track from the South Shore Commission album on  Wand, is their cover of "Any Day Now"... BEAUTIFUL, MELLOW...!! WAHT AN WORTH OF AN "OPERA" VOICE BY SHERYL HENRY!

How I have forget a mellow and sad tune like this...!

Eddie Kendrick's as vocalist and Norman harris as producer at their best: "The Newness Is Gone" (from the 1976 Motown album "Goin' Up In Smoke").
