Ok guys was discussing this at dab anniversary Saturday night   both these are on the same label  all be it salt and pepper being a thai release. Both are Co written by  nardi  .wonder if any of the group members were the same

The Cheques were a 60's garage/soul band from Louisiana. The band were compromised a group of mostly young white Air Force personnel. Members included Tony Nardi (keyboards, vocals), Mike Ventimiglia (now also known as Dagger) on lead vocal, Sam Ryland (bass guitar, vocals), Chuck Parrino (drums, background vocals) and Matthew Joshua (rhythm guitar). Joshua was later replaced by Wayne Pagels.

Salt and Pepper looked to be a mixed race group made up of Air Force personnel, so there may have been more than just Tony Nardi in both groups.

Great info John  I did wonder if part of the cheques had been re based to Thailand and formed the nucleus of salt and pepper,  also I wonder if the label itself belonged to  one of them .With salt and pepper being  heatwave thai ???

It makes sense that the acts who cut for Heatwave Records were military personnel as England Air Force Base (a former US Airforce base) was just outside the town of Alexandria. The base was closed in 1992 and now has become Alexandria International Airport.

The Cheques on Boss Rock are the same group but is the outfit that cut a version of George Clinton's "Testify" for Stax's HIP label the same too ?

Mick H is the expert on the Salt and Pepper record which was Recorded in Bangkok, he used to really annoy me playing it

The liner notes to "Northern Soul's Classiest Rarities Vol. 4 lists the lineup for Salt and Pepper as - 

Eddie Mobley- lead singer,  Tony Nardi - Vox organ, B.T. Bailey- drummer, Steve Jarrell - sax, Jim Plummer- guitar,

Dan Sullivan- bass/ guitar.
