How I love Northern soul

Now I’ve got the bug

It’s more than music for me

It’s part of my history

And in my blood

 

Happy music to often sad lyrics

Of love and romance

Always a great beat and rhyme

That wants to make you dance

 

Dance halls full of lovely people

Out for a good time

The atmosphere electric

And sublime

 

Soul boys and soul girls

Now mostly getting on in life

Reminiscing about Alldayers and Allnighters

And the wonderful records that they had

 

Vinyl on the turntables

Talcum powder on the floor

Spins and backflips

I can’t do any more

Although spirit willing

My polyvelds too tight

And feet are getting sore

I’d wear my baggy trousers with twenty pockets

But they don’t fit any more

 

Music like ours will never die

As long as it remains in our hearts

While our bodies may fall apart

 

Above all
