It is referred to as the original version and title of what Don Varner supposedly retitled "Mojo Mama" for the B-side of "Tear Stained Face", and which Wilson Pickett covered after that. All accounts of the similarities to Edwin Starr's "25 Miles" (and that song's subsequent Berns / Ragavoy songwriting credit) mention that Hoagy recorded it first. The Yank Posted August 20, 2020 Share Posted August 20, 2020 Joel Selvin's book "Here Comes The Night" mentions the song. Hoagy's version was cut in New York City in January, 1967 and was scheduled for release on the Bang label but was never issued.
