I'm posting this in the Sales forum, as it is mostly relevant to people selling and buying right now (Saturday), but if admins want to move it, that's fine.

I have a few record parcels to send out. and I planned to send them this morning for delivery Monday onwards. All are from, and to, the UK.

Having watched the news about the forthcoming very high temperatures for tomorrow and Monday, I am now quite concerned as the parcels will be in the Post Office system over the weekend. and more worryingly, in the back of a van on Monday, with predicted 40c temperatures.

I'm sure I am not the only one with parcels to send, so I wonder if I should hold back 'till Tuesday.

Any thioughts on this.

My same thoughts and actions though not Tuesday thats going to be hotter than Monday and I’d not want a record parcel sat in some sorting office in a pile  or in the back of a van potentially cooking 

Wednesday at the earliest then you also need to check with RM as there is a strike planned Wednesday to Friday

Shouldn't be a problem if packed well. We deal with temperatures like that all summer here in Australia and we buy and sell without issues. Mick.

I decided about an hour ago to delay anyway. Customers are all okay with it as no one was in a rush.

Good to know though.

I wouldn't worry about post offices or delivery vans in a heatwave. It's if people have their mailbox outside which would worry me.

Once sold a record to Florida. It arrived during heatwave and was left in an outside mailbox all day. This turned the record into a nice ashtray.

I had a heat-damaged record arrive from Australia a few months ago (Rene Geyer 'Be There In the Morning'). The seller claimed that it must have happened 'in transit' as it was perfect when he sent it. He tried to use this as an argument for only giving me a 50% refund (not sure how that works but still..!)

Anyway, I then asked him how that could have happened without also melting the plastic sleeve and plastic envelope he sent it in.

He didn't answer that. Just sent me a full refund.😁

 

Considering the risks and added Risk of the RM dispute with management covering sorting and deliveries it’s a no brainier IMO 

 

Our regular Postie has already told us this morning that he will not be delivering until Wednesday, he suffers with Asthma, just recovered from COVID, and his bosses won't let him out of the depot due to possible health issues , makes sense health and safety ? More possible they don't want (the GPO that is ) a Postie sueing them for working in extreme conditions and being poorly again . I told him not to worry and stay safe mate ,see you Thursday not a problem , health is more important.
