Walls Of Heartache - Saturday 28 July 2007

Recommended Posts

I'd like to say thank you to Dave for allowing me to DJ at Walls on Saturday night. Particular thanks for your help in showing me how to use the decks, I was a bit nervous.

Martin Thomson and I had a great evening, nice to see so many people enjoying themselves, most were not typical soulies as far as I could see, but they seemed to really like the music, and they were dancing.

The other 2 guests, Richard Anker and Mark Ellis did excellent sets, with a nice mix. And of course, Dave did his usual good set, including one of my favourite Northern tracks, That's When The Tears Start, don't hear that enough these days, though it is a fast one.

For anyone interested here is my playlist.

Warming up and getting used to the decks (pre 9 pm)

The Whispers - Needle In A Haystack (can't remember the label)

The Radiants - It Ain't No Big Thing (Chess)

Ruby & The Romantics - Hurting Each Other (Demo - can't remember label)

9.30-10.00

Marvin Gaye - Come Get To This (Tamla)

The Lost Family - Blow My Mind (International)

The Moments - Nine Times (Stang)

The Dells - Make Sure (Chess)

11.30--12.00

The O'Jays - Looky Looky (can't remember label)

Five Stairsteps & Cubie - Stay Close To Me (Curtom)

The Embers - It Ain't Necessary (Bell)

Margaret Little - Love Finds A Way (Detroit Stars)

(expecting an ASBO from soul police for playing this (LOL), but it kept the dancefloor filled)

Mel Britt - She'll Come Running Back (FIP)

Willie Tee - Walking Up A One Way Street (Atlantic)

September Jones - I'm Coming Home (Body & Soul)

(this cleared the dance floor)

Len Barry - You Baby (Decca)

Dobie Gray - See You At The Go Go (Charger)

Sam Cooke - Sugar Dumpling (RCA)

James Brown - Money Won't Change You Part 1 (Pye International)

End sets - each DJ played 3 at at time

Marvin Gaye - Baby Don't You Do It (Tamla)

Ike & Tina Turner - Finger Poppin' (Warner Bros)

Etta James & Sugar Pie DeSanto - Do I Make Myself Clear (Chess)

Bobby Freeman - C'mon And Swim Part 1 (Pye International)

The Drifters - I'll Take You Where The Music's Playing (Atlantic)

Betty Everett & Jerry Butler - Ain't That Loving You Baby (Stateside)

I'd recommend anyone looking for a good Saturday night out to go to Walls, just people enjoying themselves, which is what it is all about.

Its us that should thank you Geoff for coming down and playing some great tunes for us.

I think you played some excellent records - I even quite liked some of that modern stuff!

Thanks to the other DJ's as well, good sets from both as usual.

Nice to see Martin and Tony on the dancefloor as well, enjoying themselves!

See you Saturday at Boogaloo

Dave
