I was complaining the other day on my other forum EMS about lost parcels comin from the States and bought on eBay...Now I've got the explanation, alas...

In September, my eBay/Paypal account has been breached. I was notified of it and made the necessary changes (change of password). However, I've only noticed this morning when reading my paypal receipts (before filing a complaint with my credit card company) that these lost packages (7 in all) were sent to another person in the UK:

Denton, Manchester

M34 3RY

UK

Either it's the person who made the breach, accessed my account and changed my shipping address or it's an eBay f***-up. If anyone knows her, can you please ask her to contact me ? thierry.b@versateladsl.be

Sometimes you just love eBay :-))) Fortunately these were inexpensive CDs (90's and Y2K) but still it hurts....

However, as the person may be an innocent party, I suggest you remove her street number and street name. This is a public website and there all allsorts out there collecting data for identity fraud.

I'm fine thanks. Well, someone from the EMS forum lived near Steve Birtwistle's house and contacted him. He admitted having received packages 'out of the blue' and didn't know what to do with them. FORTUNATELY he kept them and they are being sent to me as we speak ! Happy ending !

Yeah, thanks ! Forgot to say that I finally didn't lodge a complaint with my credit card company because I was confident the sellers had sent the records and I didn't want to penalize 'em. Many thanks to Miranda Blake. Thanks to her detective work, I got my records back !! There's a justice after all !!

Need some advice on payment method. Have an American seller that doesn't except PayPal and will only take a cheque if it's an American bank.

I spose it depends on how much it was. You can get a UK bank to issue a cheque in dollars on your behalf but it is expensive (and it'll probably take days and days to clear). Unless it was serious wonga I'd send well concealed cash.

If it's a cheap item, you'd better send well-concealed cash than paying a supplement for the cheque (maybe it's different in the UK but here (in Belgium) banks tend to discourage us from using cheques and add a hefty supplement if we use them). Otherwise use a cheque but personnally I only buy from sellers who use PayPal...

Don't actually know him, but have emailed him a few times about payment (was a while ago and think he used to accept Western Union Money Transfers). He tends to get a lot of decent stuff (and has done for a fair few years), most of which I'd imagine ends up over here, so pretty sure he'd have had some negative by now if he wasn't okay.

I'd suggest putting the cash in an empty cd single case and send it in a jiffy bag. I always send dollars that way and have never had a problem.

Would also consider sending them "International signed for" costs a bit more but item is then tracked - like Special delivery in this country

Hi Ian. I've sent cash before to the states, and I was told to put it inside some carbon paper, the US post is abit corrupt

so when they scan the envelope they dont see the cash. I did that and the guy got the money and I got the record.

I have had stuff of him before, if you want you can always recorded delivery on the cash as the other guy said, US sellers are nomaly 100 0/0

Been a bit clumsy of late. Cooking a curry Friday night before last and forgot about a Ray Pollard* that was going through. So messaged the bloke after the auction had ended and said I'd PayPal £40 on Monday. Did. Still nowt..

A couple of days ago the postman turned up with a stack of parcels. Been waiting on one for ages so when he handed me the bundle I though "great, it's here at last". Opened the first two (record in question still not here) and then gets to a bunch of four that had been bound together with that plastic tape stuff that cuts your fingers like a b*stard. Odd. Anyway, the one on the top was from Finland. I cut the tape and opened up the bundle. The second parcel was also from Finland, and the third, and the bottom one. Except that three of them were for other people in completely different parts of the UK! Obviously some numpty at the Finnish post office had thought they'd be clever and seal them all up together in one easy to manage block. Weird thing was that looking at the post marks they'd been posted - or stamped - about 45 mins apart. Anyway, if Nick Hackett, Linda Couldstone and (I assume) Steve Plumb are wondering why you've got a record from Finland with a UK franking sticker on it, that's why!

As a footnote the record I was waiting for actually turned up an hour later via parcelforce in a box about the size of something normally reserved for packing a food blender. Light as a feather, mind, as the record was nestled in three days worth of newspaper.
