Posted November 7, 200717 yr Good news - we have our own SS bit of the chat forum for Soul of Jamaica. Bad news - apart from the odd Jackie Edwards & Derek Harriott track I haven't got a clue what its all about. How about a CD swap? Might kick start the Soul of Jamaica section (not that it really needs it) & educate people like myself. Appreciate many 'soulies' won't be able to fwd a Jamaican soul CD, so just have to send something a bit intereseting...... Anyone know how/interested in a CD swap? Col

November 9, 200717 yr Sorry I haven't been around much due to personal problems, but I'd deffo be up for swaps. Form an orderly queue and no fighting at the back! Drop me a message if interested. Cheers Gordy
November 9, 200717 yr I was just going to say, for the people who have nothing to swap, I'll send them something anyway, don't want anything back - I must have given away over 100 reggae ska rocksteady cd's on here in the last 4 years or so. I'll be up for the swap too but a) I don't want to swap with Gordy cos he's got everything I've got and b ) I don't want any Studio One or Coxsone stuff cos it's overrated and useless after 68 anyway Edited November 9, 200717 yr by Pete S
November 9, 200717 yr I don't wanna swap with Smiffy cos he's a cheeky git who has his head stuck up Duke Reid's bum Seriously though, here's how it works with me. I send soulies Jamaican stuff and they send me early 60s doo wop influenced soul goodness, mid tempo mid 60s stuff, deep soul, 60s/early 70s Latin stuff or R&B. Absolutely NO modern! Cheers Gordy
November 16, 200717 yr Thanks to the handful of people who've sent me PMs (and to the chap who's already sent me a CD). I just finished putting together a couple of discs of soulful Jamaican tunes (including some great covers of actual soul tunes*) and these will be winging their way to you this weekend. (I didn't bother including the Silvertones' horrendous cover of "What's Wrong With Me Baby" on Studio 1, which was attempted in an NS style and ended up sounding like cheesy lift muzak). Gordy
November 16, 200717 yr I sent out 5 lots of cd's on tuesday (free, not for swaps) and only 2 people bothered to even say thanks so I don't think I'll bother in future.
November 16, 200717 yr That's why I stopped my podcasts mate. Kudos to the people offering swaps but people who just take stuff and can't even say thanks get right on my man-tits. Gordy

January 12, 200817 yr Count me in - I have loads of JA compilations I've made for myself and others. My latest one was a selection of mid-70s UK sevens that "moved" me back then - I've called it MUSIC SWEET. Anyone interested, PM me and I'll sort summat out...
January 12, 200817 yr Absolutely NO modern! Cheers GordyAccording to Gordon, any Soul after 1975 is crap! Miserable sod doesn't even like Soul-based Disco
January 16, 200817 yr Told ya mate, I like Good Times and Le Freak by Chic. Only cos we used to rap over the instrumentals as kids mind (Flippin' eck, rapping's almost been around 30 years - where's it all gone?) Gordy PS: Will be putting together a new CD in the near future - still got your addresses in my inbox!
