Was talking to my brother other day about dancing styles, now he was a veteran of

the casino, and he said a lot of folk used to spread talc over the floor to help

them spin/slide. That is faking your owN ability on the floor i said, but then the brain

kicked into gear and i then realised that if i'd put some talc down when i was trying

to spin with Docs on i wouldn't have almost snapped my ankle. He also said the was

a lass from Chorley who used to dance bare foot ?, and he said she could spin with

the best of them, again i suggested that surely her feet would've blistered, but he

said notwhen shes carrying talc laddy, did/do any of ye use talc to assist in your

dancing, i've learnt my lesson and just move in leather soles now...lol

yep we use it up her at our venue and also when the balls are sweaty..

I hate talc specially when ya get some peeps put it down in the middle of the dancefloor...... if they have to use it i just wish they would put it in a corner or at the edge of the dancefloor

I think it depends on the floor

Some people put it down before they have even tried the floor out which is a bit silly.

Generally nites in dance halls tend to be ok but some social clubs n pubs have really sticky floors through years of polish over polish n u really need it in these venues.

Shoes do make a difference i agree.

I recently bought a new pair of leather soled loafers n boy do they make a difference.

Also i tend not to wear them in the street n change when i get there which also helps to keep the soles nice n smooth.

In me old age i find a bita talc saves my knees n hips from hurting tho after a nite of say 9 hours dancing.

After years of wearing loafers i desertd them for a while n opted for the 'pump'style shoe but now i have been reunited with these 'magic' shoes i will never dance in anything else again!

It depends very much on the shoes you wear and the floor.

If the floor isn't clogged with years of beer and you have shoes with a leather sole you don't need it.

Otherwise you do!

I am a self confessed talc junky , but as prementioned it does all depend on the floor and your shoes. I always feel daft though when shuffleing my feet on the dance floor before getting up to dance , It's horses for courses, though I do agree that it's rude to chuck the stuff willy nilly - I tend to find dark corners and stay there .

Seriously, It's all down to different dancing styles ... I use it (and ALWAYS wear leather soles), like that really "slippy" feel under my feet. Appreciate that others don't, so always sprinkle at the side.

also heard that by putting talc down on the dancefloor it can effect the insurance of the venue should someone damage themselves by falling over because of it.

If you look at the 100 club floor, im sure the talc wouldn't be the insurance issue, More like the pot holes and loose tiles!

Its not a problem in the big ballroom dancing venues

If only we ALL had your grace and skill Personally, I dont feel in a position to tell people what shoes to use or that MY shoe works on anything. I haven't danced on ALL the floors at uk events. Also, im not of the opinion that what works for me, MUST work for others.

Could easily reverse it and say, " why dont you learn to dance on talc mate?".

Anyway I wear ladies Doc Martens they're great for dancing when they been worn smooth!

When I've danced the first dance if I think Im gonna need it I put it under the table to dab my shoes in or on the edge of the dancefloor if the table area is carpeted

hell I even dance on the carpet if the dancefloor is packed!!!

I do try not to use it but I dont mind folks using it ..IF theyre gonna be on the floor ALL night!

I dont remember huge plumes of talc being used tho ...it was brogue shoes with leather soles and polyveldts

And the dancers were Awesome some of the spins went on forever!!!

I always stayed on the left where the decks were 3/4 the way up the floor

the front was always reserved for the best dancers

I do remember the great smell of Brut talc tho

Palais did have a great floor. Used to get a bit dizzy when I ventured downstairs though (revolving floor!).

There WAS a lot of talc used back in the day, its not a new phenomenon. So some people out there have been pissed off for a very long time

I don't tell fibs like that Paul Sadot does, I'll openly admit that I love a bit of talc...

Will make sure I swathe plumes of it right in the center of the dancefloor next time I'm out - just to piss people off naturally

Oh and don't tell me that I don't need it, or that I should wear proper shoes, or that I can't dance anyway

Ah the old palais floor best in the world

Dont knock talc at least you can see it!!, unlike silicon which some half brained twerp used not so long ago at a venue, twas like watching dancing on ice without the sequins.

Johnsons Mand is me preferred talc of choice, smoother granules

Definitely agree with what you said in your previous post re: If you're on the floor all night. No real worries about people using it, but I do sometimes wonder if some think they have to use it, as it's in the rules.

Yes, true, maybe we were less liberal with it , or more precise! Bali High, id forgotten the name. I did get into the jazz/funk scene, shorter skirts in the Bali high!

100club brill venue even if the floor is in need of repare talc user but only on the edge, where as mars bar is talc paradise

Ido think some people think it is in the rules.It would be nice if the talc users would consider the soulies who wear shoes that dont need talc. In my experience the people that swathe talc all around the dance floor just shuffle up and down anyway

I used to regularly "dust" my feet when I was in the Army.

Next time you go to a nighter don't just worry about cleaning your weapon, pay particular attention to your feet. Take dry socks and change them frequently between stops and if you ever do an extended patrol where contact makes the mission creep from recce to a fighting or even an ambush, change your socks. Don't worry if you haven't got clean ones, liberally dust your dirty socks, ensuring the trace can not be detected by the enemy either visibly or by smell, turn your socks inside out then swap left to right. This will rotate any flat spots on the sock to your feet cushioning as best you can.

As soon as you are back in your patrol base or harbour wash your feet then dust again before putting clean socks on.

I once took army foot powder to a nighter and whacked it onto the floor, nearly passed out me sen at the chemical stench! Throat ripping bad, use Johnson's BP every time now.

If you can 'shuffle' you dont need talc, and the condition of the floor is immaterial....a good workman never blames his tools, loads of us used to dance on the rough, and I mean rough, concrete floor of a barn at the Bletsoe Allnighter(Bedfordshire) in the ealy 70T's, talc was unheard of....Horace from Harborough will back me up on this....M8TY, Chiefy and myself will get down the 100 Club, eventually

I rarely use talc, the way I dance I prefer a modicum of grip- or I end up A over T. Can get wrong footed by very slippy floors if in very hard soled girly shoes.

Used to have this debate about talc with Matt Jahans who promoted the original Dome- he used to cover the floor in talc before the night started and sweep it round with a broom- so you had no choice! In the end I persuaded him we could have a 'deep end' (with) and a 'shallow end' (without).

I keep a piece of soap in my purse for grip to rub on my shoes, in case I end up at a floor resembling a Christmas grotto scene.

Fuckin Gardenia scented stuff at do's, don't it just do your head in! Lily of the bloody valley.. lavender... there's a time and a place!

Like smelling your gran.
