I actually feel guilty for asking (i.e. a sense of mistrust) but is this a "Seller beware" occasion ?

Posting to a Buyer's Confirmed Address

An address is confirmed if the buyer's debit or credit card billing address matches his or her postal address. In some instances, PayPal can also confirm the address in other ways, including examining the buyer's PayPal account history.

The Purpose of a Confirmed Address

Although the vast majority of unconfirmed addresses are not fraudulent, PayPal offers confirmed addresses as an additional layer of fraud protection. Confirmed addresses help guard against stolen credit cards and identity theft and decrease your chances of receiving a chargeback. However, it is important to note that you can still receive a chargeback for reasons unrelated to fraud.

Posting to an Unconfirmed Address

Most unconfirmed addresses are not fraudulent and sellers don't usually experience problems sending items to them.You are not required to post goods to a buyer's confirmed address to be eligible for coverage under the Seller Protection Policy.The Seller Protection Policy does, however, require that you send goods to the address listed on the Transaction Details page and this is not always a buyer's confirmed address.

When you do send items to an unconfirmed address, PayPal encourages you to be aware of your buyer's status and minimise any possible risk by following our Protection Tips for Sellers.

Not particularly...I was unconfirmed address for ages...just was too lazy to do it...so long as they have paid for the item, it just means they havnt done the whole paypal setup thing yet...alot of seller PREFER confirmed addresses however.

Not strictly the same thing, but anybody know about 'verified' and 'unverified' accounts?

It was an age ago now, but I remember going to pay for an item I had won on Ebay only to be told that I had exceeded my spend allowance for that month!

I couldn't believe that anyone could impose a limit on the amount of my own money I was allowed to spend!

Anyway, as far as I can remember in order to get this restriction lifted I had to become 'verified'?

Not exactly sure what that means though.

Anyone else encountered this problem?

Yep,. I think I still am... If you're unconfirmed, doesn't it mean you can only spend upto about £750 using paypal or something like that?..

BUT HOW BAD IS THAT?

I had absolutely no idea I was only allowed spend so much of my own hard earned money!

Plus it takes about a week or more to get yourself verified as you need to wait for them to pay two small amounts into your bank account that you need to verify.

Not good when you've got a seller waiting on a payment.

Plus they don't make you aware of the fact until it's too late. (Well, they didn't make me aware of it anyway.)

i had the same problem a few years ago all it does is get you to use youre bank a/c in the first instance thus ebay avoids cc charges on the transaction.i always use my c card as opposed to my bank a/c it gives you the option,then at least you are covered by the c card insurance when buying.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, is it a sale on Ebay? If so you could always check out their feedback.

I would be very wary about sending an item to an unconfirmed address,you will not have a leg to stand on,if anything goes wrong.

There's a couple of people on here have been caught out before,think Pete Smith might have been one of them.

Jayne,if your spending that much a month on records are the dustbin lids going without food and water? And who is doing the cooking ,cleaning,washing and ironing whilst you are spending all your time on ebay?

on the few occassions i've sold to an uncomfirmed address i have always e-mailed the buyer and asked him/her to send me an e-mail back stating their address and made sure that it coincided with the one given on paypal, so far i've had no problems.

Its all to do with being verified by Paypal . Just had a real nightmare trying to get comfirmation(fooked up on paypal pages) I had to wait nearly a month for a code to be posted to me, which meant that everytime I wanted to pay for something the seller had to wait up to 9 working days for the money to clear out of my bank account . And all because they want to confirm your postal address.
