Yesterday I bid on the Village Choir 12": hot lips on ebay. I was the first and only bidder and there were some days left before ending. A few hours later I got a mail fom ebay, that my bid was cancelled and the auction has ended (no reason stated). Accidental i saw that the same guy offered it here in the ebay sales section for an "offer he cannot resist" . I'm a little bit irritated. I aways thougt an auction is an auction and when somebody is bidding on it you cannot cancel it just because you want to sell it to somebody else....very unfair! Tolbert

had the same happen to me a few times on ebay, usually on packs where a decent record has slipped in. Not much you can do other than name and shame, and also report it

Sorry but if you've got a record that's only reached 10 quid then someone offers you 200 quid - then I don't see as you have a choice, I would definitely withdraw it, it's not against ebay policy to do this, they give you four options to choose as to why you've done it

i agree business is business but i think sellers should advertise that they may take it off at any point ,which some do.....i suppose they all get plenty bidders changing their minds and not buying though !

ok it's legal and business is business...

but what will hapen if everybody is doing it like this or auction winners withdraw their bids because somebody is offering it cheaper...I think the basis of fair auctions are gone then...

also there were 6 days left and I'm shure that the price is getting up

and I contact the offeror via ebay and soulsource what price he is looking for...no answer

From a legal point of view it's against Ebay rules to end an auction because you can sell it for more somewhere else (especially if you already have at least one bid). That's what I meant. And I assumed that that was the reason in Tolberts case.

I was always pissed off when auctions I placed bids on were ended early. But after I was offered an amount 3x higher than the going rate for a record I had on Ebay, I now think different about it. That's life, there's always the next bargain somewhere waiting for you...

I don't end auctions early. However, there are five main reasons why I will cancel a bid:

- The bidder has ZERO feedback.

- The bidder has a bad feedback record

- The bidder is rude when it comes to leaving feedback, rather than return the record for a refund.

- The bidder shows any signs of being a troublemaker in their feedback

- The bidder is a stamp collector (true, as I've had two stamp collectors who think they're an authority on P&P costs. Plus they're arrogant and rude with it).

I will always give reasons such as the above when cancelling their bids.

to be fair i had a guy on musicstack advertised carla thomas 100 club ann single never stop loving you for £15 bought it only to rec a message that he couldnt find it.refunded the dosh but to his credit kept in touch and sent it 6 months later when he found it and asked me to send the money if satisfied.

I've had that happen to me too, I assumed that the seller had decided that they'd got the price wrong and so claimed they couldn't find it. Annoying but maybe I'm just cynical.
