also where do they go to when the come into this country and is it parcelforce who deliver or royal mail?

I want to start a trace on it but dont know who handles them in the UK or where their (whoever they are) incoming mail

from USA depot is..Is it feasibile it is with customs??if so can I check??

Richie.... check with sender what service he used and check > HERE < for further info on time frame, etc..... if you get a receipt number as well then > HERE < might help....

Richie, I've had one or two registered records from the states take over a month to get here, over two weeks is fairly typical. Registered mail does seem to take that bit longer, probably due to extra handling and documenting for tracking.

If worried i would check with the sender as they may have a tracking number. Customs may have it but I wouldn't automatically assume so just because its been 2 weeks. As I said over 2 weeks in my experience is quite normal for registered records.

Forgot to say, It will probably be Royal Mail that will deliver it. It will depend on the size of the package. If its bigger than letter post then it will be parcelforce. Most US registered 45's I get are delivered by the Royal Mail, however if in a large box or jiffy bag then it may be parcelforce.

Registered mail takes longer, sometimes 2 weeks within the US, I would wait more than 2 weeks before starting anything, plus there should be a tracking number the seller can provide saying where the package is.

I fully sympathise with this, I've been waiting for a copy of Troy Dodds since 25th January sent using USPS registered mail. I have a tracking number, Royal mail said it would be delivered by Parcel Force but their system tells them that it hasn't arrived in this country.

I've reluctantly started a paypal dispute and the seller has started a claim with USPS.

We'll both get our money back but I'd rather have the record

Hopefully it has found its way into their joke mail which is normally referred to as surface mail, evidently this can take up to 10 weeks.

I don't understand how in this day and age parcels can go missing like this or take so long. I have a mental picture of some guy in a USPS uniform (steady!) swimming the atlantic with a brown cardboard package in his teeth.

GASH, iVE HAD RECORDS SENT USING THIS SERVICE...IT WILL TURN UP SAFE AND SOUND MATE...2 1/2 TO 3 WEEKS IS THE NORM. WHATS A PAIN IS ITS USUALLY A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE. THE MAIN ADVANTAGE IS IT CAN BE TRACKED. ONCE IT LEAVES THE USA IT DOESN`T TAKE LONG TO ARRIVE...COUPLE OF DAYS AT MOST.

Me too Gash. They do turn up. I know it's a bit of a pain but keep sticking the tracking number into the USPS website every other day or so and it will eventually show it's left the U.S etc...

Registered mail from the states to england is a very poor service and can take a month or more. I've had two registered packages never arrive and i was unable to file a claim because england says they delivered it. It will take months to resolve and hours on the phone and you'll get nowhere. If you have to use registered mail request a pink return receipt. in the future my suggestion is to use priority mail or express mail. they both offer tracking and insurance but are very expensive. I now use private insurance it makes life a lot easier.

Yes, USPS Registered is an awful service, but safer and more reliable than the regular USPS First Class.

Also, you have to understand, when records come from the United States -- they only guarantee the tracking up to the point of when it leaves the country. After this, it's the responsibility of the country it's being sent to (i.e. in your case UK) to scan the packages and forward the tracking info to USPS. It has been my personal experience that both UK & Japan fail to do this about 50% of the time. I sent $$$ 45 to UK back in December and the tracking info still has never updated. If it's an expensive 45, I usually would just 'bite the bullet' and pay out of pocket to upgrade the shipping to flat-rate Express ($28) -- it has reliable tracking (unlike registered) and is fast (3-5 days).

What if there is a dishonest person in UK Parcelforce (surely not! ) who looks out for USPS registered post record shaped parcels and pockets them before entering the tracking number on Parcelforce's system? If you checked the tracking it would show they had left the states but not arrived in the UK.

Maybe we should pool our information and report this to the police, although whether they will be bothered is another question.

In my experience once Parcelforce gets involved you're really in the lap of the gods. Their attempts at 'delivering' mail are sometimes pretty half-hearted and the 'communication' trail left by their operatives can be haphazard to say the least.

I would tend to shy away from any service which requires proof of delivery across national borders: there's just too much that can go wrong and the track-ability options just seem to add to the stress. Standard USPS deliveries are far more straightforward in my experience.

My advice to you Richie would be to go to your local Parcelforce depot with ID and proof of your address and ask them if they are holding a parcel for you. On more than one occasion I've had records waiting for collection at Parcelforce where no notification had been left stating that a delivery had been attempted.

My feeling is that they prefer customers to come to them rather than the other way round.

As an added layer of confusion if Parcelforce can't deliver a signed-for international package they sometimes leave them at a local Post Office first rather than taking them straight back to the depot. The odds are that your record is either at Parcelforce or a Post Office. Being pro-active is probably the key here if you can spare the time and energy, but it's all a bit of a pain when you've paid extra for a service which can be very hit or miss.

My record turned up yesterdayback at the sellers house saying it was undeliverable???????????????????

..and it never left the feckin USA..

apparently went into a holding file as opposed to a forwarding file..so thats a month round trip from ILLINOIS ? TO NEW YORK AND BACK.. International my arse..useless USPS cnuts...

at least my tune is still there...now going fed ex f*** the expense..its worth the money for security and piece of mind.

I used this service earlier this week....for an extra $10, the sender gets a receipt with a unique delivery number which should be trackable door to door. So round about $17.00 for one 45......the sender still needs to complete a customs form otherwise it'll get returned.

The service is called 'First class international registered post' and should take 7-9 days to arrive in Europe. Usually the PO workers will try and push a Global Priority service, which will up the cost by at least $20.
