This might be interesting. We just did this on another music board with LPs & ended up not even being able to find a common artist let alone single LP on a board of collectors with seemingly similar tastes. If we can't get a common 45 then it drops to common artist & failing that common label. It's interesting because things that you think are a give in are not kept in the collection by some people because they are either too common, or not representative of their favorite sound. Let lots of "I don't own that" followed by "how can you not own that" ensue :D You have to currently have the 45 in question filed, pressings don't matter so long as you can find it on 45 in your collection.

I'll get the ball rolling, does anyone here not have:

The Supremes "Baby Love"

The Temptations "My Girl"

???

ps. if you don't collect 45s please don't say no to everything just to wreck it like I think some people were doing on the other board.

Pete60 has wiped them all out. Again. I suspect if we put in "Gudbye to Jane" "Puppy Love" or "Ride A White Swan" we may have a chance with him

I was still typing I think. Yes everything has gone again apart from

Carstairs Red Coach.

So two new titles from me

Belles had been eliminated earlier. Mancha's have both gone so still the Carstairs remaining.

Someone else put a few forward. Looks like we didn't think much of the new Top 100. Anybody have more than 10? Obviously price came into it with Parliaments etc but if we were all upfront we would have bought them in Wigan record bar for £1.50

It's now getting tricky remembering what's gone before

Some don't really collect 70's others 60's, the top 500 has been exausted, Mark doesn't really do Motown/Detroit, which is in turn Rod's main passion,

Reckon we are gonna struggle :D

Edited by Pete60

Marvelous!! Do you want to put 5 more up then Steve?

ROD

:D

I'll go with Eddies two choices if they've not been vetoed already.

Plus Shake Me Wake Me - Four Tops

Oh How Happy - Shades of Blue

Edited by SteveM

The Elgins -Heaven must have sent you

The Isley Brothers - This old heart of mine

2 records I never tire of hearing .Best,Eddie

Agree totally Eddie but unfortunately and strangely one at least in this game doesn't do Motown :D

Edited by Pete60

OK I have those and I guess Steve and Pete do so

Carstairs It really hurts...

Elgins Heaven must have...

Isley Brothers This old heart...

Four Tops Shake me wake me

Mark b may be a problem though

yes good suggestions. You are aware of rules? If you don't have a copy you say so.

I think part of the problem might be related to people's ages too. I'd expect most my age and up to have a copy of Marsha Brody on Hot Shot knocking around, while people who started at say, Stafford, or later might not. I am drinking wine after a tough day though so might be talking cack.

And, as the owner of two cats (Mayfield and Bootsy), I'll knock that feckin' Schr¶dinger's teeth out when I catch him.

I think he does the odd Motown 45 and bearing in mind your comment re exhausting Top 500 and diminishing returns it may be an idea for Mark to post up those Motown he does have as I woulda thought there's a slim chance of agreement on something from that label.

He probably likes Lionel Ritchie as he's into 70's.

Yea think without looking back he said he has 4 or maybe 5 Motown 45's and a Carstairs,

That many eh? Still it was a pretty piss-poor enterprise and you could see Berry Gordy getting nowhere with that sound.

Noted no Shades of Blue, Pete

Quantum vinyl is easy when you have the basics covered. Everyone who is saying they DON'T have a certain record, but did have it once, may have to open their record box just to check. You never know.

In fairness though Mark has said more than once that due to his collection/taste we should count him out

I get this Steve :D

With Quantum theory your records can be in two places at the same time. Although I understand that by rights if you use it to move a record through space instantaneously you have to destroy the original

It's just the animal cruelty that gets my goat.

off the top of my head

marv johnson you got the love i love

supremes he's all i got

four tops Im only a man (i think thats the title)

Yes he has but we are trying to find a common denominator throughout all collections although it is less likely if you only collect one type with just a smattering of the other.

The loss of the Carstairs is a huge blow as I'd convinced myself everybody likes/has it except Pete Smith.

Still we've learnt some things along the way foremost amongst which is to ignore completely the next "good idea" from NZ.

If we get really stuck I like that idea (Mace's?) of going for any version of Wade in the Water.

Know what you're saying Rod and wasn't suggesting we count Mark out, just merely pointing out, in his defence, that he did offer,
