Hip City Records Latest List Mar 2005
HIPCITY RECORDS 127 MILTON ROAD CORRINGHAM ESSEX SS17 8JY Tel: 01375 640951 / 07808 253553 - 8am - 9pm (GMT) e-mail rob@hipcity.freeserve.co.uk I can accept payment via cash (your risk), cheque or credit card. PLEASE NOTE: SOME OF YOU WILL GET THIS LIST TWICE. I AM SENDING THE LIST VIA THE NEW GROUP https://groups.yahoo.com/group/HipCityRecords AS WELL AS BY MY OLD ADDRESS BOOK. PROBLEM IS YAHOO ONLY LET ME ADD 10 NAMES PER DAY MANUALLY. I'VE SERIOUSLY UNDERESTIMATED HOW LONG ITS TAKING TO ADD THE NAMES IN - CURRENTLY 6 MONTHS TO DO UP TO THE LETTER `P'. SO IF YOUR E-MAIL BEGINS WITH AN "S" OR "T" ETC YOU'D BE BETTER OFF ADDING YOURSELF AT THE ABOVE ADDRESS OR YOU MAY NOT GET FUTURE POSTINGS. Sad to report this list the deaths of 2 music legends. Jimmy Smith - jazz hammond organ supremo died in Feb and on the soul side Ray Pollard also passed away. He only made a few tunes but they were great and when I saw him live in the UK it was a defining moment. Both will be sadly missed. On a lighter note this list will be going out after hopefully another great weekender in Prestatyn. A weekender coming up is Gijon in Spain which I'll be playing at. Its supposedly one of the biggest and best events in Europe on the soul callender and I cant wait. 26 / 27th March are the dates. Also next Dome in London Tuffnell Park is on the 26th March Cracking line up of DJ's again. Don't miss out - last one was great. Next Almost Grown in Southend is 4th April. Soul nite on 19 March at the Prince of Wales Hotel in southport raising money for Alzheimer's research. "You know you got soul" The Basement Wells st, Chelmsford cancer charity soul night 27th March - Shifty, Ian Wright. https://www.youknowyougotsoul.com I did a charity bike ride last year from London to Brighton. Its taking place again this year on 19th June and it would be nice to get a "northern soul" team up. 4 of us so far. Let me know a.s.a.p. if you wanna do it as we need to register. POSTAGE £1.50 for 1 (25p each extra) ALL SENT RECORDED. Registered add £3.Overseas please write or phone. Cheques payable to MR. MESSER *** Available on a C.D. or a tape for £4 incl. New 6 Pac Sessions In Sounds Section
nice notes! dunno if just me, but am a sucker for stuff like ".... reason that the ska suddenly slowed down and became the more laid back rocksteady was apparently because Jamaica had it's hottest summer for decades in 1966 and the dancers simply could not keep up with the fast rhythm...." and all rest of triv and background, keeps your eyes busy as well as ears cant find the gold star stickers so ...

New 6 Pac Sessions In Sounds Section
Thanks to all members who took time and effort in passing on all the various new 6 pac sound sessions on site, 22 (at one time) have been added over the last couple of days, and found them most enjoyable. On stuff like this, think it always a good thing if after listening members can post any feedback, thoughts and so on. Each session has a comments section, which works the same as forum and members can also give each sample a rating Couple of points that may improve stuff? If throwing up ought reckon it helps make it more interesting if try and give a bit of info to each 6 pac - actual listings of tracks should always be added imo plus if got any trivia, background, stories , top info, stories sure will always be appreciated by all. Even if a quick word on why you choose that track. Or a lengthy 25 year story how you spent best years of your life searching for it , all add to it Idea being in these days of 1001 sound alike soul radio stations, sterile sites offering 1000s of tracks, six tracks with no info or listing or connection may no matter how earth moving they are may get lost in the flood so a bit of background and feedback lifts them up so ask if listen - take time to do feedback if throw up ought add a bit of info, background and so on as said thanks to all, some great listening so far mike /index.p...y&cmd=sc&cat=66 for hours of fun ps all posts can be edited both content and notes, if do remove, or have probs - ask let us know so can assist, as nought worse imo than clicking on dead links and may put people off others

never say no on here! espically to members uping content to site the 6 pacs seemed to work best to me, as sorta short and sharp - size wise and sleeve notes wise and thought get more discussion/feedback while long continuous one can be a pain to upload cause of size, if upload f***s up , you have to wait a long time to find out and not so easy to navigate, and hard to come back to just split the 45mins into 4 parts and so on Ones up cut most tracks to 1 min 30 and mixed them in to keep it all short and sharp and avoid obvious probs with one offs and rare stuff size wise say -about 12 mins mp3 - 2-3 mb ? keep them in gallery session bit, as then easy to find, comment, and come back to, and gallery takes more formats and plays stuff better can't see any probs just shout by pm if run into any mike and all should be
