  1. I'd read (in at least one forum) that it wasn't.
  2. No idea. Soul for Sale?
  3. Mike Russell, the culture minister, said: ...the missing words are "...but as usual, we won't take any notice" after "listening government"
  4. Sanctuary were swallowed up by the monolith that is Universal Music Group over a year ago now, Dave. I doubt you'd get even a response from them (UMG)...although Laurence Cane-Honeysett and Nick Bourne are doing JA-related stuff for UMG.
  5. Just listening to the Soul Vendors' Latin-edged BO-BO and the rhythm fits this avatar almost 100%
  6. Thanks, Dave - I have my fair share of stinkers too Catch me at the Trojan forum (link below)...

  8. No one's opinion on anything is ever wrong, I reckon. However, the base information for that opinion may be incomplete or incorrect. Just my opinion (which is right!)
  9. I can't be the only one in here who's still got pretty much all the records he's ever bought. I started in 1964 with E.M.I. record tokens I got for my 11th. birthday in June. These are the first two records I ever bought - they're still in their (admittedly battered) original sleeves and I still treasure them:
  10. Yesterday, I asked pretty much the same question over at Trojan ... https://www.trojanrecords.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6761

Never thought of that angle, Chris - I've also never had (or needed) a Swiss Army knife, so wouldn't know what's on there...

Yep, the palm tree is a depiction of a naked lady. Water skis? I'd go along with that

Humph! Thanks for the comments so far. I have several others in the Island USA series - all feature that metal bar. Perhaps it's the edge of a flying saucer... Island UFO anyone?

I picked up DAYBREAK back in '75, having heard it on (probably) Dave Symmonds BBC Radio 1 show. I don't think I ever heard it anywhere else on the radio and maybe just the once. I never heard it whenever I went out (not that often, I'll admit) and it's the only tune I have by them - the B side is Bobby McLure ~ YOU BRING OUT THE LOVE IN ME. The only thing that strikes me about it is that it could be a slice of blue-eyed Soul. Any info appreciated:
  15. I bought several Soul packs (various sizes) from Blues & Soul (10 Stax import for £1.80? in 1971) and Oldies Unlimited. I haven't got rid of any of the records.
  16. On this label? (forgive my ignorance) - mine has MR in a circle stamped on it and "M# 117" and separately "100300-X" preceded by a triangle hand-scratched. The disch isn't that thick, the label sees to be solidly stuck on the record.

A pleasant surprise on flipping LONG SHOT KICK DE BUCKET (TR672)
  18. Pete mate - THE BREAK is on the Trojan Revive Box Set if you have that one (TJETD029 ~ 2002) - if not, I can post the tune up somewhere and you can have a listen.
  19. Ooops. Jackpot JP808? I had LOVE AND AFFECTION down as Dennis Alcapone in my database - thanks for that, Glenn - I just corrected it
  20. From Tapir's: CS 7085 The Sound Dimension - Soul Trombone // Lloyd & Randolph - It Ain't Produced by Coxson Dodd 1969 I have both these sides on separate CDs - I don't have Winston Francis doing YOUR CHEATING HEART. However, I know that Winston Francis was either "Lloyd" or "Randolph", so it's either the exact same tune or Winston Francis did a re-work of it at some time Hope that helps...

Can anyone tell what year this emanates from? (At the risk of sounding foolish, I'd have hazarded about 66/67, but...) Many thanks - Zap / Joe

I can't remember, GM - but I probably watched it (de rigeur viewing in our house) and would place it during the Spring of 1964 - MBL entered the various UK charts in March of that year.
