  3. they work off a car battery
  4. ...yep good question young man---have ya got the Rare Stamps album I could borrow lol
  5. ...mmm Yes I do --me and me mate Sneaksy knew a lad from the Torch who did that a lot--with the occasional kick forward---funnily enough his name was Rodney lol hehehehehe soz off topic ..'reggae' dancing was called the 'ball crusher' around our way--with a propensity to generally stick to one spot and what looked like wringing one's genatalia like a shammy leather lol There is a link to the earlier scene with reggae---Jackie Edwards--but that was more like Jamaican Soul. Certainly Dave and Ansell Collins wouldn't have gone down well---fine record though it is. Harry J and the all stars--saw some action at Torch on a Fridays pre nighters.....cant remember what but sure some reggae got some wheel plays apart from Prince Buster etc.....Max Romeo anyone???
  6. ...mmm its about right that marra--although as Rod says it did find its way played at many a youth club 69ish for a period alongside aforementioned club/wheel mainstays. The more 'selective to the ear' BLUE BEAT stuff didn't get much 'airtime'. Trojan Chartbusters has a lot to answer for!!!!!! lol---it did tend to be the more commercial stuff--although skins locally did try to dig deeper--wiv Ska stuff--if memory serves
  7. ....it aint cheap either ...
  8. pedantry lol---thats confused me---whatsit mean ?
  9. Hi Chalky Yeah you're right mate, but if we could just leave it here till after the weekend so its gets 'max exposure'. We trying to let as many people know as poss that the venue has had to be changed at the 11th hour. Thankless task and we're trying every medium we can to raise awareness....and a couple of days in AOY would help ..Is that ok cheers Jez

  13. I would say this wouldn't I DECEMBER 9TH 1972,MAJOR LANCE LIVE AT THE TORCH Not just because of the well documented atmosphere on the night --but the first time a live album had been cut from an act at a northern soul all nighter..
  14. .....certainly are mate--team photos at the ready!
  15. ...kippered
  16. Have to admit I do prefer the Gene Latter version --- but Donnie has his place at soul/motowny type nights-----Elbert thatis not Osmond------having said that....hehehe just leave ya with this from Mr Elbert.....
  17. some good calls there for 'yoofie' type sounds Impressions as well does the trick Autumnstoned---and forgotten about that little 5 stairsteps one----at the time it seemed so tame ---but had its share of spins ....oh and here's a killer I know the topic starter absolutely detests anything 'Donnie Elbert'---it makes him vomit :D ....lol am sure it'll grow on him in time
  18. (what about the ones who dance to everything....that throws a real curve ball into the mix..) ...................Kidnap em and take em to every gig ya DJ at :D ----folk like that are like gold dust
  19. I think its time for list EDDIE FLOYD---BRING IT ON HOME TO ME NEWBEATS RUN BABY RUN DORIS TROY I'LL DO ANYTHING TAMMI LYNN I'M GONNA RUN AWAY FROM YOU CHIFFONS SWEET TALKING GUY MARVIN GAYE LITTLE DARLIN DRIFTERS SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES DON COVAY SEE SAW DOBIE GRAY IN CROWD RAMSEY LEWIS WADE IN WATER ROBERT KNIGHT LOVE ON A MOUNTAIN TOP ARTHUR CONLEY FUNKY STREET ROUND ROBIN KICK THAT LITTLE FOOT...ETC LOS BRAVOS BLACK IS BLACK BOOKER T TIME IS TIGHT BOB WILSON SUZY'S SERANADE HONEYCONE WHILE YOU'RE OUT LOOKING FOR SUGAR EARL VAN DYKE 6X6 ALL FOR YOU ....AND THE LIST GOES ON OH AND TAKE YOUR PICK OF ANYTHING FROM MOTOWN CHARTBUSTER VOL 2-5 Now there's some backing music for ya Table Tennis :D ....Now then have we got any underplayed yoof club choons SPENCER DAVIS TRAMPOLINE --PERHAPS Sapphires ---got to have your love maybe Intruders---- Up and down the ladder Esther Philips---What a difference a day makes Joe Simon---No sad songs Bill Deal ---I've been Hurt .....................
  20. ...............there's something strangely alluring about a dancefloor that is buzzing to the likes of 'Stoned Love' etc. Think in this case--its not overplayed 'norvern' classics but more a case of underplayed yoof club choons. Apples peaches, ....Ready now,....Sweetest Feeling,....Blue Skies etc etc are the staple ones that come to mind. BUT what would be thought of as underplayed 'yoofie' sounds. ..Careful now one might have to admit frequenting such events :D ..or having a sneaky fondness for such tunes, ..Played at the right sort of gig.I quite like some of the early 70's philly stuff .....................
  21. I 'tuned' in this pm and he just sold this---but didn't state 'original' on this----Still it made some dosh!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Velvet-Satins-Nothing-Can-Compare-You-Rare-/160623002739?pt=UK_Records&hash=item2565e08473
  22. Jez Jones replied to Geeselad's post in a topic in All About the SOUL
What's next----some wag will start playing northern soul
  23. ...and he tells me he's a vinyl hunter ...........................................think this is on the Xmas pressie list for him :D
  24. ...these waters can be 'muddied' even further. Numerous times we hear 'the dancers dont care'-----thats a tad harsh to generalise. I know I'm going somewhere tonight where the dancers DO care and probably most rare soul ovo events are populated with dancers who are VERY knowledgeable and do care. ...So we may the ovo dancers and the bootleg dancers lol. doesn't get any easier does it hehehehhe
  25. bloody ell Geese you come up with some corkers for discusison me 'owd. ...Quite pertinent though really considering stuff like Susan mackey is getting spins as well Some of the choons that are supposedly reggae that would get played on the scene have got a 'soulful' voice with it. Susan Mackey has---Jackie Edwards--come on home is quite soulful also ...Remember some old wag from Whitworth st--calling Jackie Edwards--'Feel so Bad' as Jamaican Soul. Cant argue with that really
