  1. Bit funky as well Nev.
  2. Tell me about it, that's all I do now.
  3. You know you'll only try and buy one back in a year or so. Wish I could afford it Bri. Jordi

Ha Ha, reminds me of the guy off 'Wait till your father gets home' (was it Ralph?) Jordi

But Bob, if it was played at Wigan or any other ancient hallowed northern soul cathedral back in the 70's then it can't be funk. Frankie Crocker's 'Ton of Dynamite' would be northern and not funk, yet Willie and the Mighty Magnificents 'Funky 8 Corners pt2' would be funk shite! Jordi
  6. My Prophesy has got no bass. A bit like the old Maurice Williams - Being without you purple boot. Jordi

Yep, we've already descended into the meat headed, "funk is shite" comments already. Where's my Judy Street boot, I need to hear some proper music.
  8. Tony Aikens isn't a 12" it's an LP. The 45 is on Rota. Jordi
  9. Chocolate Syrup - Off and running Spyder Turner - I can't make it any more (for that Paula Radcliffe moment) Dean Parish - Bricks, broken bottles etc (for the English football side) More to come....
  10. or "Up and Over" - Jay Traynor for the pole vaulting. In fact Ian, you should have opened it up on here for suggestions before you compiled it. Jordi
  11. I like your thinking Ian regarding offering alternatives to the inevitable corporate soundtrack, however I would bet the likes of 'Simply the Best', 'Search for the Hero inside of you' by Foghorn Leghorn (Heather Small), 'the only way is up' (Yazz version) etc etc, will be the TV and radio backdrop to the Games. Jordi
  12. Thanks Seb. Yeah, I traded about a £100 worth for it a few years back. Some you win some you lose, I love the record though.
  13. To be honest I thought it was a bit more than that Seb, nearer the hundred mark. No matter, a great piece of soul produced by Del Larks' sammy Campbell. Jordi

There are loads Bob, but there's also loads that do fit a good long track on one side, take the Soul Crusaders on LuTall for a start. I wonder why some studios decide to go with full tracks and others decide to split them up. Perhaps there was nothing to put on a flip?
  15. Killer tune Tony. The original version is by the Friends of Distinction but it's not a patch on the Sophisticates version. Jordi

Why they couldn't put the two parts together on one side i'll never know. Part two is a killer side but it needs part one. Part one just fades out with no logic.
  17. Ha Ha! I wish I still had them. i got them for $3 each. I kept one, gave my bro a copy to upgrade his copy and gave 2 copies to my mates. Thanks for the comment on the show. Jordi
  18. Let's have a look at the ad then Steve. Jordi
  19. I think you'll need to pay more than £150 to get a nice copy. Jordi
  20. That looks like a great show from the playlist Nev. I know what you mean with over use of certain words, mine is usually "bollocks" or "shite" when I do the radio show, luckily that nice man Mr. Plumb manages to cut them out. Jordi

Not an easy tune to get hold of though. It seems to be in demand on the sweet / group / lowrider scene. Des parker sold me a copy some years ago at Albrighton and he told me that he found the record in the same projects area in Columbus as where the Chandlers came from. Jordi
  22. Killer funk on the flip Charlie. Jordi
  23. I agree totally with this John. An 'Alternative' room allows the DJ to diversify as he or she wants. You still need to have DJ's that know how to play a diverse range of music and blend and flow well otherwise it would be a complete ecclectic mish mash. I always enjoyed people like Gavin Page as he knew how to do it, without anyone being able to predict what he was going to play next. Done well, mixing the genres for me makes for my favorite nights out. I get bored of one genre continually, whether that's Northern, 60's rare, crossover, steppers, funk, 70's dancers, jazzy rare grooves or modern/contemporary plodders, but when they're mixed up well with good imaginative underplayed record choices then I'll have a great time. And don't get me started with the Northern soulie's unimaginative definition of Modern and flogging average / dull tunes to death for ever such as Driza bone and Kenny Thomas etc, etc, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  24. Crossover and Modern have always been uneasy bed fellows in my opinion and I don't know why they were ever lumped together. The only common ground is that you get some mid tempo 70's soul played at some modern do's and at some crossover do's, but apart from that, there are many more differences than similarities. Jordi
  25. Steve, I wouldn't like to take credit for that, I think the first edition was a 'test the water' release. I got a copy of it sent to me when I bought a copy of 'Gold' from him off Ebay. He asked me for my thoughts on the track, so I told him what a great record 'Imposing' was but how terrible the production on the 45 was. I was gobsmacked when I got a letter from him a couple of months later thanking me for my comments, with a few copies of the 'all new, crystal clear sounding' new version. PS we'll see you at about 7.30pm tomorrow...get the kettle on! Jordi
