  9. Back when I was into 'Northern' in the 70's and early 80's, I don't ever remember hearing any 50's stuff. It just didn't have the right sound. The earliest tunes I remember being played were very early 60's and they weren't really my cuppa. Proper 'northern' for me then was '65 - '67, hard 4x4 beat, vibes, echoing strings, sax and vocal harmonies, with other exceptions from later years that had the right sound and atmosphere. However, there were always 70's things being played and even the odd current 80's thing like Keni Burke's "Let Somebody Love you" being played, but I don't remember the 50's stuff. May be I was going to places that didn't play that or is it that as the years have gone by Popcorn and R&B has just been integrated into the scene and has become known as 'northern'? Jordi
  10. Probably about 5 years after it's released and then it'll be played for another 10 years on the northern scene if previous Driza Bone releases are anything to go by.
  11. Update. Nia Johnson SOLD Mel Wyn SOLD Debonettes ON HOLD Patti Hendrix SOLD Roscoe Robinson SOLD Unit Band SOLD Thanks guys.

  13. Shades of Brown is a killer crossover tune at a great price. Anyone into mid tempo aching soulful, grooving crossover who doesn't know this should buy it blind. IMHO of course. Jordi
  14. Are you sure Ivor? I've got both 45 and 12" and have always thought it was the same length, mind you it's a long time since I played 'em so I could be wrong. Jordi
  15. I don't know if Brett means "Running Back" but "Midnight Affair" is definately a USA release 45. Saying that, the lp version is better than the 45, it seems to be a different mix with that rhythm guitar higher up in the mix.
  16. I can see Soul Sam quivering at the sight of all those buttons to press and knobs to twiddle with. Jordi
  17. Why would you buy, let alone play records that you don't like? Stay true to your own tastes mate, you'll never please everybody anyway so don't try and 2nd guess the audience, you might as well play what you like and what you would like to dance to if you were in the audience. Requests? well if you've got them with you then you obviously like them so play them. Don't listen to any pissed up twat that keeps asking repeatedly for requests though because you'll end up focussing on her/him and not play what you wanted to play and you'll regret that when you finish. Jordi
  18. I love Joe Bataan's version on his "Singing some soul" lp. Jordi
  19. This is a cracking tune Paul that will have it's day. I've had it a couple of years but I still play it often at home. Jordi
  20. Tony Fox - Let Love And Be Loved , Tony Aitken - Good Things ,
  21. It also failed to turn it into a mainstream circus filled with the kind of 'towny' types that we have always dreaded. At the end of the day, any media intrusion has always just been a bit of curiosity on the media's part and has never lasted longer than a Kentucky drumstick. I do think there needs to be a killer documentary made about the scene and it's history and I think most people would secretly like to see one made despite the protestations of certain people. If we're going to try and get younger people converted into the scene, the visual marketing of it is important. I remember not too long ago Steve Cato was involved in a short film that someone can probably post a link to, which perfectly captured the essense of 'cool' that is important in attracting young blood to the scene. Filming fat blokes attempting back drops at the British Legion hall isn't going to look too good or attract people onto the scene, but some stylish film making that captures that rare atmosphere and mania could certainly help and if it doesn't make us look like twats then where's the harm? Jordi
  22. Sorry to hear that John.
  23. It's when he's sat on the loo Kirsty, if I don't put a few tunes on I'll just stand there shouting at him to hurry up.
