  1. Nice version! I like the ending with the male backing vocals, BUT I don't think it really touches Johnny Mae's. It hasn't got the awesome power and majesty of Johnny Mae's voice that sends shivers down my spine. This version is vocally weak I think. As for the Black nasty version you all need to get your 70's blinkers off as it is also superb. Totally different arrangement and production obviously but an absolute cracking version you deaf buggers. Jordi
  2. Totally agree Woolie, I like this better than Gold.... Just a fantastic dancer. Jordi
  3. --> QUOTE(mark.b @ Sep 26 2006, 03:30 PM) link butch had £400 on it at the orwell last month. mark Blimey that's jumped from the £250 he wanted for it at Prestatyn. Jordi
  4. I agree to a certain extent, but I would say exciting, in yer face music rather than just stompers. I also think the way to get younger people into the music is to take the music to them. In other words get some of these tunes banging away in a nightclub with a smaller dancefloor, with all the usual nightclub lighting etc and coming out of good soundsystems. Very few youngsters are going to take to a massive working men's club full of 'old' people wearing funny clothes. Jordi
  5. Mart, I would say Jeff Smith is about £100 although I've seen it for more. Cortez is a 90's indie with virtually the same backing track as Arnold Blair, probably about £20. Girth would know. Jordi
  6. I'll have one Pete. Paypalling money now. Jordi

Come on Mike, you've got to laugh at some of the stuff on here. As well as being genuinly funny bordering on comedy genius at times, as others have said where else can you learn so much, buy and sell tunes, find out about events, chat and realise how global the soul music scene is. This site pulls it all together and it feels like soul's headquarters. Close it down and people won't know where to go or what to do, mind you I'd actually get some work done. Keep up the good work fella (and the other Mods) Jordi
  8. You've got me now Tone. Which was the Bond movie with the voodoo stuff because that's the one I'm thinking of with King Errison in it. BTW, don't apologise for reiterating, it's good to have the correct info. Jordi
  9. W. King Cole - "I wonder Why" Micron. Pure class, I was told it was Billy Cole. I also love the Chosen Few - "In Miami" LP on Konduko and UK Trojan. It has some wicked funk and soul tracks on it, particularly "Wandering". Then there's Phillip and Lloyd's - "Baby I'm sorry" on Scepter, Beres Hammond's "Do this world a favour" also is a cracker. Jordi
  10. Wasn't that the King Errison band playing? or am I mixing up my Bond movies? Jordi

I've seen it for sale @ £200 a few times Simon. It's the flip "Con Me" which is only on the issue that people want it for, it's a gorgeous Sam Dees slowie. It was a John Anderson soul pack tune from the 70's for me. Jordi
  12. BTW, sorry Mal.C, I didn't mean to knock your sale of it. Each to there own. I'll give you £500 for it. Jordi
  13. Absolute soullesss shoite. Sounds like a Gerri Halliwell record that happens to have a northern inst. sample running through it. I get angry when I hear this played out (thankfully not very often) and see loads of people dance to it, it makes me wonder why I bother with this scene sometimes. It takes up valuable record space when it's played, that could be filled by something decent. Jordi (just back off holiday so in a bad mood)
  14. I've just been charged $21 postage for an lp that I won off Ebay for $9.99. I just know the guy was pissed off at having to let the lp go for that amount so he thought he'd try and recoup a bit on the post. Jordi
  15. Mate of mine got one a few months back. Jordi
  16. Brilliant record Tan, and a very cheap price. If I wasn't going on holiday I'd have this to replace my less than perfect copy. Jordi
  17. Nice one John. Great crossover mover, even though he does lose the plot in the middle for a few bars. Jordi
  18. What a tune! Had that on loud in my headphones last night. Jordi
  19. Got to agree Pete. One of many that I never tire of, although probably partly due to the fact that I don't go to "Oldies" do's every weekend. I think playing a lot of the same oldies every weekend does actually kill off brilliant records. Jordi
  20. 5 that I can't stop playing at home are: Sophisticates - Really Hope You Do (Underground Sounds) Little Al & Maxidynes - Lonely days of my life (Shell) Christian Plicque - Hot Foxy Woman (Le Cam) Temptations - Hey Girl (UK Cloud 9 LP Tamla Motown) Brenton Wood - Catch You on the Rebound (Double Shot) Jordi

Yes be careful with this. The best version is the one on MGM as it hasn't got the "Neighbourhood kids" doing backing vocals, whereas the Aquarian version has. You don't want the Neighbourhood kids version! Jordi
  22. Bloody hell Simon, which bit is badly sung, badly produced or messy. Sounds fantastic to these clean washed ears. There's a lot going on in there but that adds to the excitement that the vocals create, and the production keeps everything clear. I wish it wasn't rare then I might actually have a chance of owning one. Jordi
  23. Nice one Simon! Have I missed something re. the Carstairs? is this the same version as the Appointments or are they the same group? Jordi
  24. I was playing this last night at home. George Kerr perfection! the other side "Give Him Up" is a belter as well. Jordi
