  1. It's past the £40-£60 bracket John. I got mine off the bay about 3 years ago and it cost me about £50 then. It's got to be more like £80-£100+ now, and with Sam reviewing it (about a year after I reviewed it) in Manifesto, it might go for more. It's a good 'un tho'. Jordi
  2. Oh dear!!!! This could be endless, but I'll just chuck this one in as possibly the finest and most important record ever........ Carstairs Really hurt me girl ......or may be Gayle Adams!!!!!! Jordi
  3. Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes - I played the fool on Epic I used to have this. Bruce Springsteen connections with the sax player I seem to remember. I don't think I'd enjoy hearing it now! Jordi
  4. I can't get my breath with this. Every single one that I know on the list is just ridiculously valued! It's never right in a million years. Does anyone know anyone or admit to winning any of these? Are there a few lottery winning soulies on the scene that can't be arsed to hunt around for the tunes. OK some are shit rare and wont be seen for sale hardly ever, but there are too many that are around on one list or another or in people's boxes. I just can't help but feel there is something underhand going on here that is designed to get people in a lather about certain tunes and thus make people feel they should be paying these kind of prices. I know for a fact that people who are thinking of turning their records into cash are going straight to Ovenchip, knowing that is the best way to maximise their profits, which is fair enough, but who the f*** is spending £200 on Eloise Laws, or £600 on Ujima etc. etc.? This scene fucks my head in sometimes. If it aint this dodgy auctioning, it's DJ's playing the same played out tunes over and over again, week in week out and not having the balls to move things forward by playing different stuff. For Christ's sake the dancers will follow eventually if the tunes are good. I know I can't be the only person on the scene that wants to be stunned by fresh tunes, that I have to go up to the DJ and say What the f*** is this?!! That's what keeps the scene alive. At the moment it seems as stale as my friggin undies. Jordi

    About £100. Jordi
  7. I have a spare mint 12" of Ronnie Stokes monster modern soul/funk tune "Touch you again" on Philly City for trades if anyone is interested. I'm looking for trades about £200, 70's modern or crossover. Jordi

I've been after this myself for years Leo, I just can't get hold of one. Butch did have it but I missed out on it about 3 years ago and I haven't seen one up for sale since. Jordi
  9. Talking of Traffic Jam/ Chet Davenport on Toeholt. I've just got hold of a wicked little tune on Toeholt by Nobody's Children, called "Shardarp", it's the flip of a sweet soul tune which I can't remember the title of, but it's a killer funky soul dancer from 1976. I can't find out any info about it, can anyone help? Jordi
  10. "Didn't I do it to you" is my favourite Skullsnaps 45, followed by "I'm Your pimp." Did "Pimp" come out on an orig 45 or was it just on the boot flip of "Hang up"? Jordi

What's the story behind Velvet Hammer's "I can't believe", as it's exactly the same record as High Society's "I cant believe" which is about £30-£40 instead of Velvet's £150. I suppose Velvet's is probably rarer but why did the same recording come out under 2 different artist names? Jordi

Great show James! What's the info on these crackers. Jordi Freddie Wilson "In Born Soul" Ree Flores "Look Into My Heart" Blue Rhytm Combo "Too Old"
  13. Had to laugh rather loudly there Kolla!! I think there is also a slight suggestion of helium inhalation on the chorus'. Jordi
  14. Am I the only person on here that thinks the Dottie and Millie is a sickly, irritating piece of overrated pap, or should I get my coat? Jordi
  15. Bleedin' hell Billy you did alright there!! I was offered one a couple of months ago for £600. Jordi

  17. Truly awful video production. Great idea as has been said, and at least someone has had a go at doing something, but any sense of what makes a programme watchable as a piece of TV or film has been totally lost or more probably was never there. I don't know what film / TV making advice Levine took while making this but I would imagine from looking at the final job that it was either none at all or any that was given was totally ignored. It's cheap and nasty to look at, nausea inducing most particularly during the 'pop' videos by the artists. I couldn't imagine a worse way of showing these artists. Obviously not enough footage was shot at the time of these guys miming, so he relied on the worst wedding video / 70's Dr. Who effects to diguise this fact. I could go on at length about this video but it's pointless. The whole thing would have been a better job if he hadn't used these ultra dated and cheesy effects, if the backing tracks to the artists songs weren't Levine re recordings featuring a Tamla drumroll that appears at least 30 times in each song with bontempi keyboard brass sounds etc, and if it had been no longer than a couple of hours long. A proper documentary needs to be made on this subject. Jordi

Doesn't sound like a fault of Paypal to me. Sounds like you did well to get a payment from Paypal as I would think it's the person who promised you the record who is at fault here. We all get stung buying records off t'internet at some point, it sounds to me as if you have. Jordi
  19. Thanks for the info Dan. How does it compare to the Pioneer 609? I've been advised to go for this one as it's simple to use ie press play and record and set your levels, and it's great quality. It has also been voted a best in "What hi-fi" Cheers...Jordi
  20. I would be up for this but I haven't got a cd recorder yet. I'm trying to get hold of a Pioneer PDR 609, I don't suppose anyone can help with this? Jordi
  21. Mike, my Houston Outlaws has got W-1557-1 CANADIAN LTD scrawled in the run out groove and a tiny PR, and some other squiggle that I can't make out with an M in it. No stamp tho', but it's a genuine article. Top tune with a good funk flip. Best..Jordi
  22. Somebody had a "real" Tommy Tate on KoKo a few years ago at an Albrighton all nighter. I looked at it and it sure looked authentic. He wanted about £400/£500 for it if I remember correctly. There was some scepticism as to whether it was real however. May be someone else knows about this. Jordi
  23. Royal Esquires definately looks real to me. I certainly don't regret forking out the $200 for my copy as it's a killer tune. Why people shout out about bootlegs is beyond me. Every single time a rare tune gets found in any quantity more than 3 they are automatically boots. Things are always going to turn up unless all stocks were destroyed or were never issued and only on promo. It's hardly surprising that a pile would be found of any tune, as distribution of many small label tunes back in the day (as well as today for that matter) would have been fairly limited. Once a group or artist's distributor or more likely the group themselves had run out of local options as to where to send the records ie shops and radio stations, they probably would sit in someone's cellar waiting for a time when the tune might get picked up on by the radio and local demand for it would rise and the copies would be sold and it would be a hit. Only it hardly ever went like that and therefore the tunes would gather dust. At the end of the day if you like a tune you pay what you are prepared to pay and what you can afford. As probable as it is that records will always turn up, it is even more certain that when they've all been sold you will wish you'd had one. Jordi

You're probably right Leo, I'm obviously mixing up my Jerri's. Jordi

Stevens and Foster is on Jeree records I think, and when it comes up for sale is between £50 - £100. Class tune that I've been after myself for ages and keep missing out on when it does show up. It's perfect for the funky house boys to sample the piano from, I'm surprised nobody has done it yet. Jordi
