Visting hours are 3.30 pm to 4.00 pm & 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm (Monday & Tuesday this week)

  4. My remit for Southport weekender was to get together the best djs on the scene, which i believe i have achieved. I will change most of the line up every year, so that we have "new /different" names every year. They have also been told " no repeats-no excuses" during that session!

We want to involve all aspects and styles, and in the future want the younger djs who are making their own style of scene to feature too,but it will take time!

The first time i went to prestatyn there were 400 + and it gradually built to what it was at the end.

  5. Better post "On Topic", I think there is a demand for this type of event, but I'd limit it to 2 nights, make it central and with easy Motorway/ rail links.

Dave Moores Spanish event "Hitsville" ticks all the boxes, wish it was in UK with that weather as well ! LOL.

I'd also be inclined to chuck an act in as well

Can we throw in here what peoples ideal DJ line up would be or nominate 1 "Must have" DJ ?

    Rob

    PS mine would be Honky

i have asked him , hes busy this year bui next year might possible!

  6. I really miss the Lifeline weekenders at The Old Bull.

I thought they were great and I wish they'd restart them.

These days apart from SOul Essence, the ones in the South West, and a cameo appearance at Cleethorpes,I don't really do weekenders (but would do a rare one as long as the music is good quality rare).

Am not interested in just going for three days of alcahol, bad kebabs, line dancing, bad hangovers and a sing along to Top 500 60s and 70s or so called "underplayed / unknowns" that have been played and known for the last 15 years+.

So the answer from me is if the DJs are right, then yes.

Then look no further! southport weekender rare room has some of the best djs in the country ,check out the djs and see if their the ones you want to hear!!!

the oldies room also has some of the most popular djs and quite a few who will play beyond the top 500 !!!

  7. There was too much emphasis on money and getting in as many as possible the longer it went on. The first few were great, the first two as Mike says superb. But even the gloss was taken off the acts with poor sound and singing one record three times rather than do a half a dozen record set. I remember Baby Washington, you couldn't hear her, terrible for such a great artist. Had some great weekends there, especially the Thursdays early years watching the artists rehearse. With the acts they had on they wasted a great chance to have a superb showcase but IMO it was wasted.

The music went downhill too, another nail in the coffin as far as I was concerned.

Isnt that the way with business's the world over, they make a profit one year then next year they set a target for the following year , and you are expected to meet that or its down as a loss!

I agree with you that it was never loud enough, to engage the crowd into the performance. Which you need, and the performer needs to drive them on! imho.

At Southport the sound system is very much louder and clearer than Prestatyns main room.

  8. IT WAS VERY BUSY THE FIRST 5 OR 6 YEARS THEN IT SORT OFF TAILED OF,

THERE SEEMED TO BE MORE EMPTY CHALETS EVERY YEAR TOWARDS THE END,

MOST OF THE RECORD DEALERS WERE ABSENT OR ONLY CAME ON THE SATURDAY,

THE QUEEN VIC WHICH USED TO TO BE PACKED WAS NEARLY EMPTY SOMETIMES,

    JOE.

I agree with Julie , It was busier every year no doubt about that!!

the empty chalets were mostly ones that were in need of refurb i was told.

The Queen Vic was essentially a rare and underplayed room, and as such had a smaller following, it allowed punters who liked to hear new tunes that the djs were trying out, on the whole we had very positive comments from punters.

    Roll on october!

  9. Personally if someone wants to make a film about 'Northern Soul'.............why can't they do something about the current scene rather than focusing on Wigan Casino, The Mecca, etc, etc.

Don't focus on the nostalgia..........focus on the here and now!!!

Many comments on here about young folk getting into the scene..............Christ I would hate it if they thought that's the way it all still is!!!

The Scene has evolved...................if anybody else wants to make another film, just take the cameras to somewhere like Bidds or Radcliffe where there are different rooms playing so many different sounds or soul nights that don't just play overplayed oldies!!!

OK that's my bit said............I'm outta here!!!

Couldnt have said it any better........thank you.
