Clubs In Manchester Mid To Late 70's
I didn't know Carlos -Carl Wong- had died, I'm gutted, Me and Ricky Warburton knew him from being little boys in Ordsall, when his parents had the bakery there, and used to go up to Cadishead in the early 70's where he did a night in a local WMC, where we met Brian Walker for the first time. He had a great collection, knew he'd moved to the States. Great lad, worst news I've had for a while

Clubs In Manchester Mid To Late 70's
Remember Sobers, vaguely, not for any Northern or Soul connection, but if i recall correctly it was an alcohol free night club-hence the name... Short lived, wonder why ??

Clubs In Manchester Mid To Late 70's
Ah the confusion..There were TWO Rowntrees Rowntrees -Spring Gardens, which in later life became The John Bull-a few should remember that. and Rowntrees Sound on Cross Street/Corporation Street, which is the one most will remember as the Saturday night meeting place afore the train to Wigan... Sound. had a "disco" downstairs, which grew up to be Rufus-jazz funk and all that doncherknow

Frack me.. The Watersplash... Don't know if happened more than once when me, Brian Walker and Ricky Warburton tried to get it going...yes it was empty .. Can't even remember the year-75/76 seems about right.

Instrumentals
Far better than the vocal IMO, Amazed how many people don't know it. Give it a whirl now and again-mainly to see the look of surprise when the folks start singing and The Trammps don't..
