Are There Lots Of People Selling Thier Collections Up
Think it's a sign of the current times , I've had two mates in the last six months sell off their entire collections to raise funds , both through job loss , not a thing I like to see , especially when they's spent nearly 30 yrs nurturing those collections . It's a buyers market at the moment , but still no excuse for certain individuals to offer well below figures for big hitter records , these people deserve a fair price ,

In my top ten and always get's a good dancefloor reaction !!- Would You Let The Camera's In?
Not read all of this thread , BUT as a purist who scorns anykind of publicity for this scene : I have been through the " Kiss Me Quick Hat " phase of this scene , where if somebodys cats crapped outside a nighter , somebody buys it !!!! and having seen and witnessed the young dancers at the Togerthness Weekender , I'm all for it , More coverage will ultimately keep this scene going , who else liked the music but did'nt know a scene existed before the Wigan doc ....... The regulars at the Wheel would of said the same of Stafford !!!! Let's have more youth , it was a sea of grey hair at the weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- University Challenge

Can't stand it- Blackpool Dance Competition - Togetherness
As previously mentioned in another thread , I'm not a fan of dance competitions , they belong in the 70's ,HOWEVER I did enjoy watching the competition on Saturday Night , the standard of entrants was good and it was a close run at the end with both finalists worthy of winning , also glad to see proper dancers winning , who could actually dance , shuffle and spin , rather than a russian gymnast !!!!!! Anybody else enjoy it or not ??- Mobo Awards
Below is an extract from an article in 1999, I was there that night , and it was like a wild west saloon !!!, with rival gangs of london youths using the occassion as a central meeting point to settle old scores , battle it out with each other , YES I know it was ten years ago !!! FIGHTS MAY CLOSE 'SUPERCLUB' JUST WEEKS AFTER START BYLINE: BRITAIN'S MOST-HYPED dance venue, the seven-storey pounds 8m club home, in Leicester Square, central London, is facing closure just a month after its high-profile opening. The Metropolitan Police has objected to the renewal of the club's public entertainment licence because of a series of fights at the club last week after the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards party. A large number of police were called to the club. A spokeswoman from Westminster City Council, the licensing authority, said a legal objection from the police had been received. The club's licence expires at the end of the month, when the full police report will be heard. "We take any objection by the emergency services very seriously," said the spokeswoman. The power and money behind the venture belong to a 46-year-old Scot, Ron McCulloch, an entrepreneur whose restaurant, pub and club chain is developing global ambitions. He said he was disappointed with the police action and that the club would make its own submissions to the licensing committee. Last Thursday the club was the venue for a private celebrity party after the MOBO awards. According to the police, the trouble started at 1.15am, when a small group of gatecrashers broke in through a side door. Door staff tried to stop the gatecrashers. "One member of staff was assaulted, struck with a bottle," the police log records. The gatecrashers dispersed into the club. After the party the doors were opened to the public. Further scuffles then broke out in the club. The management refused to admit any more clubbers, and spats then broke out among the 200 people queuing outside. Over 30 police were sent to the club, and part of Leicester Square was sealed off. But there were no injuries or arrests. The Metropolitan Police said yesterday that it was drawing up a report on "alleged breaches of licence at the club". It will then decide whether further action should be taken. The club initially had a temporary licence. It was given a full public entertainment licence last week, but all Westminster licences are due for renewal at the end of the month. A successful police objection would spell the end for the club, as it would prevent music and dancing on the premises.- What's Your Favourite 45 Picture Sleeve ?

This record has always been in my top ten , having first heard it spun by the " Right On Rev Tony Clayton " at Leicester in the early 80's , BUT why was it never released as an album track ?? She was signed to Warner Bros for a majority of her career , released a few albums, and we've all seen the You Tube video with her performance of it being screened on primetime Usa Youth Tv !!!! Incidently who discovered / played it first , was it Rev Clayton ? Amen- Ebay Warming ! Watch Out Guys

Never seen that Jackie Edwards before , cheers for posting it up- When Did Weekenders Commence,
Found an article in The Independent regarding the concept of the Southport Weekenders : Who had the bright idea? In 1987, Alex Lowes, a record shop owner in the North-east, decided to hold a one-off soul weekend at a holiday camp in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. Six hundred people turned up, a wild time was had by all, and Alex was bitten by the organising bug. As the dance scene grew so did interest in the weekenders and 4,000 people unsuccessfully applied for tickets for the last one in November.- When Did Weekenders Commence,
Yes there was a weekender held at Berwick , can't recall if Alex Lowes was involved , but it would of been about 87 - 88- Stompers
