I did'nt come onto the scene until the last year of Stafford , where the usual custom was if you went for a s++t in the bogs you'd have to cover it up as a p ++ s in case somebody asked you !!! I have met a lot of folks over the years and the conversation has been " Oh you're into northern soul , did you go to wigan " NO " Oh I did , sister , brother , cousin , cat , dog , budgie , blah , blah , blah ............ Even Mike Walker states half the bloody country turned up with the tv cameras !!! This is not a slate on the Casino and the path it paved . Lets face facts , this scene hides away from the tv cameras one minute and revels in a national radio / press / tv show the next , We are the victims of our own success and the days of an underground scene are well past it , lets remember the past with great memories and encourage the youth of today to carry it on , I have been to a lot of soul nights where it's all late 30's upwards , so what happens next ? So what if you can pick up Frank Wilson's Greatest Hit at Morrisons for £3.99 along with the shower gel in the 2 4 1 section !!! Enjoy it people and when you're bones are creaking and can't go on , I intend to open a residential care home on the east yorks coast for us all , called ........................................................................................ My old mate Andy Dennison , ( The Musselburgh Maestro ! ) gave me a copy of Colin Law's tape of his current sounds / playlist from the mid 80's , Colin was rocking the dancefloor of Glenrothes YMCA at the time amongst other places , I still play this tape now even after nearly 25 yrs , Lost Soul , The Gilettes , Sam Dees , The Allen Sisters , Jackie Follet , they're all on it, it is a belter of a collection of sounds from Stafford onwards !- Vg Records At Ex Prices?
Just on this subject , I have advertised in the wants section on here over the last six months for a few albums , a few of which have been three figure items , I cannot praise enough the honesty of some of the ss members re grading / condition in their replies , some of which ,when I've received the item to of been better grading than they've explained ! Probably two reasons for this , namely nobody wants whinging customers messaging them non stop , but more importantly nobody wants someone creating a thread and slagging them off ! Personally these blips are few and far between and this is a great site to do business on ,- Your Favourite Compilation Lp

We have had the best discoveries in charity shops worldwide , the cheapest monster sounds bought for 5p in the 70's and sold for £5000 ! But what about the the major f +++k ups we've all made along the way in our quest for that bargain ,either our fault or otherwise ! Have you sold yesterdays oldie for pittence only to discover it's next days biggie ,selling for mega bucks, My contribution , My postman is a star , if I'm not here he puts my records in my blue refuse bin , saving me the hassle of going to the post office next day , Picture the scene , I go on two weeks holiday , knowing my records are safe , only to return and my brand new neighbours have put my bin out along with £200 worth of sounds, thinking they've done the neighbourly thing !!!!!!!! Let the beat ballads begin ,- Leon Debouse - Fine Instrument - Bold
Any ideas what a realistic price for the album would be nowadays ? It was commanding prices of £250 - £300 a few years back, Ta !- You Know You Are Still A Soul Nut When
Picture the scene Regional course with work , hotel venue over two days , people being very nice , but more importantly being very false , yes that kind !!! Lots of discussions / lectures / team talks , blah blah blah throughout the day , last night piss up and a curry , The slightly " hardcore " members of our group , including me stayed out till 3am , then carried on drinking till 5am All was going swimmingly well until one of the lads went up to his room and brought down a cd , insisting to the poor knackered barman that he should play it ! Out blasted The Stafford Story Goldmine cd ! I was gobsmacked and more importantly completely legless , in my attempt to talk to him at the bar , I slipped , smashing through a glass coffee table and having 37 stitches in my arm ! ps : It was his girlfriends and he'd picked it up by mistake ! - Crossover Soul
