Dear All, Without harping on about the recent auction prices for some of the big hitter records out there and more importanlty some of the small hitter records out there , commanding good prices , namely Shirley Lawson , on a well known auction site earlier , where will it all end ? My example , family guy , married , one young kid , mortgage , debt , etc ....................... Fave Record : Silhouettes , Not Me Baby : Single to buy £800 - £1000 , bought last month original album £100 with track , same sound , label , etc, top quality !!! But that's not the issue ( excuse the pun ) !!!!!!!!!! My soapbox is , if you've got the cash , you'll get the record !! and drive the prices up for the rest of us or down in the economic climate , Records a good investment ? Rightly or wrongly we'd all love that lottery cheque through the post on a monday morn , but we still love the fun in the chase !!! R Dean Taylor , Tammi Lynn , and Derek and Ray all spring to mind , a village hall , with about 200 kids on a thursday night , supervised by 4 elderly women !! Disco's were comical , huge groups of people standing around whilst they played three record sets to trying to please everyone !!!! The soulies set was normally between the skinheads and rock n ' roll bits , Youth is definetly wasted on the young !!

Hi, Anybody got an ex / mint vinyl copy for sale ?

Had a conversation with a mate at work who thought he'd pulled a fast one by buying the Jewel Akens album " Birds & Bees " for a couple of quid in a charity shop with " My First Lonely Night " on it . He was gutted when he played it at home to discover the album track is totally different to the single . I had a similar experience a few years ago with the Bobby Freeman album " C'mon and Swim " for " I'll Never Fall in Love Again " Anybody else thought they'd struck album gold only to discover the differences , or any other one's to avoid !!!

In these credit crunching / recession times looming , whats the quickest turnaround and biggest profit someones made on a record ? My example , two weeks ago , the missus dragged me out around the shops in a small market town near where I live, she was looking around a clothes shop and I was waiting outside with the little un when I noticed a box of lp's outside the local charity shop , the temptation was too much and after 5 mins of going through every hymm and classical album there was , found Frank Dell ,Yesterdays People album , in ex con ,which I already had , it was then bought for £1.90 and later sold this week for £60.00 . Not a bad find , but I bet mine's miniscule compared to some , so lets hear them ,

Ladies / Gents , Whilst we're all on a nostalgia roll re Shotts and the importance it played in the Scottish Soul Scene , could we please have a scrum down regarding the nighter that really got me into this mess and a lot of you in the first place !!! Comimg from Falkirk my trip to Glenrothes on a Sat night was easy compared to some , bus at 5.30pm from Larbert ,after finishing work at 5pm , got me into Glenrothes town at 8pm , after going round every bloody village in Fife , then straight to bar at Bowling Alley to meet up with the rest . Sun morn not so easy as bus not till 10am , or cadge a lift back with Edinburgh lot. Alan and Steve Walls were fantastic in their choice of sounds / venue / and rosta of dj's , Keb , Colin Law ,Jim Tennent , Jock , Guy , etc ... as well as a host of new talent and their dj debuts , keeping a mix of newies / modern sounds and oldies alike which paved the way for the scottish scene to follow I have still never, in 25 yrs been to a nighter or soul night where people danced on the tables without being kicked out !!!! A little bit sad !! When she started splitting with " Texas " a few years ago ,she was obviously hanging out with a new in crowd , as I remember her name dropping in an interview Marvin Gaye " Love Starved Heart " as her current fave record at the moment !!! Bearing in mind this was prime time teeny sat morning tv , the presenter and of course the onlookers , ( average age 13 yrs ) were like , who and what ? !!!! Don't get me wrong , lovely girl and great voice / songstress , and a marvellous ambassador for scotland , but I'm fed up with the celeb cash in , so in the immortal words of Harry Starr " Another Time , Another Place " !!!

I went to an allnighter in Newcastle , about 87 , I think it was a one off in the end , but on the door they were dishing out membership cards , orange in colour with " Soul Explosion " across it , any takers on this one or is dimentia already upon me !!!
