Record Box Security
Have you thought about using one of those lockable straps that you secure suit cases with? They're light and adjustable lenghts You could put around the box and table, through the handle of the box. You can't nick off with the box or open it and take records out. Admittedly you could cut the strap, but it would be a bit suspicious and obvious the the DJ currently spinning - just don't inbibe too much & forget the number of the combination lock!

Odd Coupling
Yes. You need that little hole to turn the disk around while cutting the track, they work a bit like a lathe.

Odd Coupling
The blank acetate sits on the cutter like a record on a deck. In the little hole by the side is a metal peg that is needed to turn the acetate around, (againt the friction of the cutting head). The cutting head cuts out the groove that then become playable like the groove in a record.

Odd Coupling
Did you ask him how the hell you're supposed to get it to turn on the cutter without the second hole? Must have been a 'cut out' studio acetate, they have drill holes don't they?!

Barbara St Clair "teacherman" Price Reduced Again
I think that's because JM's prices are based on the last time he sold the title. There's a couple of records in there that are way below the current price but are what they were when he last sold them and I bought them for that price, but not seen him have them for sale since.

Odd Coupling
There's loads kicking about from the seventies when people cut a northen track on to the reverse of a one-sided acetate, often a non soul sound. In the 80's & onwards the cutting houses refused to do it  because the old acetate's coating had become very britle and knacked the cutting head.

2 X 100 Club Anniversary Singles
No I only have it the 100 anni single that I got for free on the night. I think Ady C found the acetate in a shop in NY without a name and called it the Fab Impac because of the Fab Imacts on Bomb? He and Keb used to play it in the 80's. I think Tim Brown got the first 'proper' copy from John Manship?

Think It's The Speed Limit?
Wasn't it played out as Patti Austin & / or the Ad Libs?
-
Think It's The Speed Limit?
No sorry I don't have a scan. I think a lot of Rob's acetate went to Chadwick, and then to Rob Thomas

Any Great New Discoveries This Year?
I’ve recently heard the remix of the Nurons – All Of My Life, but I think that's been know about for a few years. Also, just got a decent sound file of Butch’s Just Brothers cover up. Couldn’t remember when I first heard it, I thought it can’t be that long ago, but just found a niter taper from Lincoln Drill Hall with it on …….1987! (Anyone else go?) Aside from recently found studio tapes and acetates, I would be interested to know what was the last true new discovery of a released piece of vinyl. I don’t mean a one off, or something that been covered up and been sitting in a collection for years until recently coming to light. But rather a freshly found never heard of before actual record?

Interesting, was it your copy on the auction? I didn't realise JM's auction had 'reserve' prices; I wonder if you can set the reserve to include the commision, if you see what I mean?- Gene Toones - What More Do You Want - Simco Demo
