  1. Why has this record become popular again all of a sudden. It's over 25 years old for a start and has had its day in the sun at least twice already. It even came out on the Village Soul CD six years ago. Hardly a new modern monster. However, I quite like it and think it's pretty good. Much better than the Jacqueline Williams version - now that would wind some of you up lol.
  2. Bunny Sigler - Sunny Sunday and Edwin Starr - There You Go are both great choices Mine are: Mary Wells - Use Your Head The Mob - I'd Like To See More Of You Barbara Hall - You Brought It On Yourself
  3. I've never heard such crap
  4. It's got to be modern. We are in the second decade of the 21st Century
  5. Walter Jackson - Where Have All The Flowers Gone? Total embarrasing crap! By far the worst thing he ever did
  6. As I said before, if it could be done well, learnt from previous mistakes and successes, doesn't carry northern baggage (e.g. frets about format, northern soul dj's playing in the modern room because they have a few records from the 70s :-)), and respects the differences between the genres - then maybe someone could make a go of it.
  7. I've stopped going to allnighters since they closed the modern rooms down. I used to think it was the best of both worlds when it was done well. Bretby, Stoke and Winsford all did it very well. They offered two distinct rooms and there some punters who enjoyed them both. The music policy was modern i.e. new and recent releases. This left a gap for those who preferred to hear crossover / modern oldies / call it what you will. An attempt to cater for this occurred at the July oldies allnighter at Stoke but didn't work very well in that room. In fact, I recall Colin Curtis rescuing the first one by playing a cracking set of mostly recent stuff. The Stoke allnighter also moved to an anthems fest and started to put off the punters who made it immensely popular in the first place. The tent in Fleetwood began in 2002 (I think) and catered for the modern oldies - very well. In fact, so well that the pendulum appeared to swing back to that genre. The gradual closure of modern rooms as they ran out of steam due to a number of factors, music policy reverting to oldies, competition from weekenders or soul nights, etc. Could it be a go-er again? Possibly, if done well with the right DJ's and clear music policy and some tolerance from the punters. I don't travel so much these days as I don't think the long journey from Kent is worthwhile for a do that ends at 2am. I might do if something new was on offer that catered for my tastes but I'm probably in a minority.
  8. Hasn't Ronnie got any new material to offer? I'd love to that too.
  9. Agree about Danny Monday and Doug Banks. I never liked those. Frankie & The Classicals or any variation thereof also makes me choke.

Possibly. If it was a Weds, in a convenient central location and the music policy was varied. Sorry, I'm getting a bit fussy now.

I think most of the prime reasoms have been listed - money, travel, age/a;;nighter, etc. I, personally, haven't been for 12 years so am guilty too. Have you ever considered holding an all dayer Ady? That might be more appealing to quite a number of people.

Leon Ware produced Marvin's I Want You LP which included a song called I Wanna Be Where You Are but it's different to his own song of the same title. All Leon Ware stuff is brilliant. Musical Massage is my favourite LP of his but I also love the well known stuff like "That's Why I Came To California". he;s got his own distinctive style and is a very talented man. Check out the Leon Ware and Friends CD that came out on Expansion last year. There's some awesome stuff on there by Chuck Jackson, Rockie Robbins and others. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_9?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=leon+ware+and+friends&sprefix=leon+ware Also, my musical tastes have evolved over the years - like the music
  13. I think the original aspiration when the book came out ten years ago was to write a second volume 80s to the present day (1999/2000 whenever it was). This would've been very interesting. However, I think anyone who wanted to update it for the last 10 years would have a hell of a tough job on their hands in view of the many different directions the scene has gone since then.
  14. The 12" on Hustle came out around June 2005. Are people still playing this? It's a bit boring now isn't it? Perhaps it'll get played in northern rooms next year lol/
  15. You could do if you wanted to insert one crap tune in there lol . Personally I can't stand "Lord" but the Vince Montana will stand the test of time for many years to come
  16. Agreed. Isn't it about time you changed your avatar? Before Saturday, at least
  17. This is the original 12" that was probably played. It must be 5 years old now
  18. There was a reissue on 12" on Curtom with an extended mix of All Because Of You on the otherside. Lover's Holiday was also on it.
  19. Yes, you should check them out too. The Arrival is one of the best CDs of the last ten years. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Arrival-Kindred-Family-Soul/dp/B001FES0A2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1270316238&sr=1-1-spell
  20. Very good reading. I'm disappointed there was no mention of Crystal Palace FC though, especially as he had on open goal about other interests.
  21. Good choice. There's plently more out there. I won't write a long list to confuse you but The Revelations ft. Tre Williams CD that came out towards the end of last year springs to mind as being quite similar https://www.amazon.com/Bleeding-Edge-Revelations/dp/B002LFIZQI/ref=pd_sim_m_1 https://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;1;-1;-1;-1&sku=294179

Mongo Santamaria's version is a good 'un
  23. I'd vote for Celest Hardy too. i always think of it as the most typical of crossover tunes.
  24. So many wonderful songs, it's difficult to know where to start. For the sake of adding something different I'll go for You Sure Love To Ball.
  25. Which CD is that from Nancy? Is it a cover of the Marvin Gaye song? (not that he did it first - it's a very old song I believe) Frank McComb did a good version too
