inventing a brand new tradition of oldies
I don't agree with your comments about the Kent LP's. For me they opened up a whole host of new tracks that I hadn't heard before. At the time of their release in the eighties, I was attending scooter rallies and the stuff I heard on the Kent LP's was a lot different to the sounds I usually heard at do's I attended. I wouldn't call liking them a lack of taste though. ;-)

More Ebay problems
I had a similar experience from a seller on Ebay. The record was described as "excellent" but upon playing it, there was loads of surface noise. Upon contacting the seller, they told me that they only grade visually, but they still gave me a full refund. I would just wait to get a reply from them first before taking any action.

Ordinary Joe by Terry Callier, (I think it was on Chess or Cadet), unfortunately I've only got it on a CD.

Playing re-releases / re- issues at gigs?
Yea,only half of these weren't on it! LOL I recently got the Five Stairsteps track for about a fiver from Ebay. I'm sure that was the one you had to dance to at SITC that night, Gene. Some of the other suggestions I got and have since purchased, are as follows: Lorraine Rudolph - Keep Coming Back For More - Jet Stream SUPERLATIVES: Lonely In A Crowd (Westbound) MARY WELLS: Keep Me In Suspense (Atco) Syl Johnson - Try Me - Twilight Jimmy Norman - This I Beg Of You - Samar Accents - New Girl - M-Pac JIMMY INTERVAL: Somebody To Love (Columbia) Betty Lavette - I'm Just A Fool For You/Stand Up Like A Man - Calla THE PROPHETS: My Kind Of Girl (Stephanye) Eddie & Ernie - Outcast - Eastern THE FIVE STAIRSTEPS: Change Of Pace (Windy City) Jackie Paine - No Puppy Love - Jetstream All good tunes for £20 or less.

Pay Pal
I've never had any problems with Paypal, apart from being upto my limit on my card! The longest I waited for a record was about a month & a half, before it turned up. The best advice I was ever given was to check the sellers feedback, if any doubts don't bother with them. One seller from the states sent me a record that had been visually graded, upon playing it there was terrible surface noise. I contacted the seller and they gave me a full refund, so I would say the vast majority of sellers on Ebay are honest. The only problem with Ebay is that it is somewhat addictive.

Ray Charles on BBC last Saturday
I watched it. Thought it was great when Ray Charles was telling the sound engineers to turn the mike down. "I'm doing it my way! Not your way!" what a man.

"Soul City Records" label
Unfortunately for myself, I too am in the same position as Craig. And like him it's an opportunity to own them on vinyl rather than not have them at all. I thought that I'd read somewhere that Dave Godin had given his blessing, also given the website and promotion given to them, I thought they were legit. If I'd have known differently, I'd probably still have bought some anyway. What hasn't been mentioned is the amount of record dealers that actually sell these records, that enable one or two individuals to make money.

Ian Levine article in Record Collector
Until someone sells me a Sassy copy for £50, I'll have to make do with my 50p copy (boo hoo, sob sob, general sounds of grown man crying). :-(

MADNESS!!!!!!! MADNESS
Some people may thing it's still over priced at £1.99 As for this Ebay discussion, nobody forces people to bid so high. A record is only worth as much as you're willing to pay for it. I mean you not only get some over priced, but you also get the bargains on Ebay. I've recently won 2 records on Ebay for $21 (approx £14) each when John Manship has them for sale at £40 each. Majestic 7" & Jackie Paine 7" I've only ever bought one record for over £40, because to put it plainly, I don't have the financial resources to spend. Are people paying over the odds? Or are they just paying want they want to?

It finally went for $3826.00 which equals £2095.29 (according to my online currency convertor), not too sure if this is more or less than people expected?

The Holy Grail Of Northern Soul
If someone can spend thousands of pounds (or Dollars) on one single, then I'm sure they won't mind spending another $5 on postage. Within 12 hours, from when I first saw it, it's gone from $300 to $2,392.00 where will it end? Since this morning, I've found a sample of it on a Scenesville tape I got. To be honest I think the track is OK, but not the Holy Grail. Still this scene would be ever so boring, if we all had the same tastes and views.
