  3. I've had a handful of 60's USA radio station survey charts for some time. These charts were drawn up as a result of weekly record sales in particular areas. 2 are particular interest because of specific entries, whilst the others give a clear picture of how well many Soul records actually did against the more commercially vaible pop hits of the day. The 2 that cause me most interest as far as I can work out come from the Michigan area although an internet search shows one radio stations registered in San Antonio, Texas, but the adverts on the back refer to Ann Arbor, Michigan. The other crops up in post on the Soulful Detroit website. The first WOIA dated 4 November 1967 has an entry at No33 - Nabay- Believe it or not. WOW! How amazing that a 45 of such rarity created enough sales to hit the charts in a relatively high position, yet remains so hard to find. On the same chart at No5, Robert Knight - Everlasting love, plenty of them about as are the Flaming Embers - Hey mama, at No4. Incidentally the Who are No1. Of course the survey is local to Detriot home of the Impact label came from. The second WSID which I work out to be Jan 1965(?) as the Temps reached No1 with My Girl, has an entry at No43, Leroy Taylor - Taking my time - SHRINE. Not bad for a Washington DC label. On this particular chart it is all Soul, which may have aided Leroy to such a lofty position. I wonder how welcome this was to Berry Gordy in the Motor City? Does anybody else have these particular survey charts or anything different that indicate a higher position being reached by either artist? Lee
  4. Can anyone give me some idea? Cheers, Lee
  5. Must admit I spin "How can you tell me", ten times more than I play the classic KFC side. I'm no Dj and it's only in my front room, but I hope that's some indication of how good it is.

  7. What a shocker, just happened to see the post this morning and couldn't bring myself to reply until now. One of those situations where you haven't physically met someone but you know them like a brother. Alan was one of my main contacts for many years and although we lost touch a bit when I was overseas with the Army but it didn't take us long to to catch up when i got back. Whenever he'd call (sometimes for a couple of hours at a time), sometime a couple of times in the same day the 45 in question would always lead us onto loads of other soulful snippets and much banter about, work, families and inevitably Man City / Pompey fixtures. He was truly a man steeped in an underpinning knowledge of this soul of ours and always picked up on the obscure 45's with potential. We did make arrangements to meet at Albrighton some years back but sadly he couldn't get there, similarly we'd hoped to get together at Fratton Park but again it didn't happen, so it was always a case of waiting to put a face to the name, which was somewhat satisfied when I found a piccy of him on a website for which he was reviewing his spins, maybe an early link to "There's that beat"? I'll miss him that's for sure, true to his word, open, honest and an affable bloke who made me appreciate the depth of friendship that this soul scene creates. My heart goes out to Judi, Danny, Jo, close family and friends at this sad time. Rest peacefully Mate, Lee

  16. Hi Phil, I had a copy on Cosmic, blue label but with 1976 above the credits. I think it's a legitimate 45, maybe a rerun on a subsidiary label, the first was Virgitone. Not sure what the 1976 on the label proves or disproves! Best, Lee
