Most Accurate Vinyl Graders Us Or Uk Sellers?
Received two records from the States today, graded as VG that should have been graded knackered! My experience is that UK sellers are much more up front and conservative in their grading. A lot of amateur ebayers know bugger all about quality and just see $$$$$$ when it comes to Soul. Records graded Good ish, are virtually worthless to sell on so I find many go for the soft option and grade VG or above . After all with postal prices now being what they are, it's easier to take it on the chin, if you bid and your bargain turns out a dud.in. If you've got the dosh, buy from Anglo, Moerer or Manship go for quality if you can. Sorry just my experience, buying on a limited budget. Interesting thread though.

Current Day Bootlegs And Bootleggers
Licensed re-issues are no problem in my book, though many serious collectors abhor them. I reckon anyone selling the legit re-issues is supporting the music industry in a positive way, keep it up!

Snipping
Only on Soulsource. Made me laugh though! Lost auctions many, many times. Not in these circumstances for low value items. Its a matter of whether you want to invest in the technology. I ain't got the beans. Thanks for sharing a few thoughts on religious ceremonies though.

Snipping
Just been snipped by 10p on three different items. I hardly see how such practice benefits the seller. Its a beggar reyt!

Uknown Modern Soul 45
Definitely not a feel good tune! Some might like to own it from an obscurity/political theme point of view. Interesting post though.

Mamie Lee - I Can Feel Him - New Boot ?
Dear Pikey/whoever Thanks for an unnecessarily blunt response. Don't know why you have to react in this manner. There's been many a post on this subject where the links been left in play, the Tempests being one example. As you might imagine free advertising for boot leggers is my last consideration. Please accept my apologies for a less than great post (no responses except your own). Regards Mick

Mamie Lee - I Can Feel Him - New Boot ?
Kinda defeats the object of exposing them, doesn't it? I take that this guy is known then? If so I've already reported it to E-bay and met with the usual response. Best Mick

John Manships Auction Results 6-2-2013
It's interesting reading this thread, in that I'm surprised that what I regard as mere banter ,others regard as libellous. However I suppose if you're putting your thoughts in writing in the public domain, you can leave yourself wide open. Meself I can only dream of owning Pyramid, a tune I happen to love, along with many of the above. Having just acquired a copy of The Star-tells "Falling in love" for a tenner , I'll have to make do with that. 'an T will give me jip about that too, if 'n she finds out. Always find this thread a good read - thanks boys.

Bootlegs In Manships New Guide?
25 quid more like. I think I got £15 for mine on E-bay last year and that was after listing it 3 times. I can also say that it was ex. Surely this is a printing error? Thanks for posting. Mick

100% Original - No, 100% Bootleg Actually
As did I without acknowledgement. I also sent him links proving the point. I will say that those designer pick covers are neat and quite expensive on their own. According to the bay it ended at £39.99 1 bid, can't see that anything was changed on it though: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181061993932?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D181061993932%26_rdc%3D1

Newbeats.....'crying My Heart Out'.....'non Grata' These Days?
Re Run Baby Run Here's where the mod clubs and northern soul crossed over.. Still got my nice UK Hickory copy of Run Baby, bought from Keith Minshull at The Golden Torch for £3 in late '69. Quite a coup at the time obtaining a copy. Run Baby and Queen of Fools were very much sought after at the time. Keith was of course a Wheel regular and many of the sounds played there and at the Cats, found their way to the amplification and speakers of Chris Burton's pre all nighter Golden Torch club. Tony Blackburn would have been one of the first to play this on Radio 1, when it was re-issued in '71. Though the spadework for London Records in promoting "Run,Baby," had already been done in the clubs. I can quite understand why with the hindsight of overplay and a chart hit, most fans of our genre would tend to disown this type of tune. However along with Spencer Davis, Wayne Fontana, Dusty, The Outsiders and the Human Beinz, I for one still hold a candle for these early club tunes. Thanks for posting this discussion.

Record Grading In 2013
Of course it is not ever going to happen, but Ebay should offer some grading advice along the lines of the Record Collector/Goldmine grading. I have received some shocking VG+ records of late which bear no resemblance to either of these guides. OK they're fairly low grade records but that shouldn't mean knackered. Its hardly worth forking out for the extra postage to return a $15 record these days. Representations to the seller usually meet with the send it back then response. Representations to Ebay have met either with an automated stock or no response. I have posted about this myself several times but the general reaction is of the "suck it up" type. Sadly I ain't got the cash to fork out for EX or Mint copies. Thanks for posting, glad I'm not on my own in feeling this. Mick

Ebay And Bootlegs, What Can Be Done?
I know how you feel, most peoples idea of VG+ is miles off the record collector/manship/anglo guidance. Although it may seem hypocritical as I've been trying to sell my own 1970's boots, I have reported a number of contemporary booters to EBay, issues which have gone totally without response. Sadly (often said before) the original artists don't benefit any more from a 1K original than they do from a boot. I take it that Soul Nights promotions always have a performance license? What about carvers? Personally I would be glad to see the back end of modern day booters. Thanks for an interesting post. Mick
