  1. .....rare soul events and big all nighters......in the above case people attending these events are equired to: take their shoes off before entering the hall women must wear veils, and stay at the back of the hall AND... NO DANCING!!!! whos for the first rare soul fatwa???
  2. Yes...I will admit to liking 'Point of no return' and 'Country Living'...but they were V-m productions, I thought?? (I will have to look at the LP) Whilst on the subject of V-m only the other week, I found a copy of 'Finger pointers'-Choice Four-reasonably bearable.....
  3. Thanks Kolla, for the post-i'll read it fully someday....so, let me get this straight, PIR is responsible for all the 80s 'Soul Cheese'(Vandross, et al), although, the Stylistics were exponents of that "artform", in 1973...(though they ddi do a few passable tracks, IMO) nice input though-encourage a bit of debate...
  4. ...to say nothing of the 'Soul Inquisition'..... .their hatbrims are made of LPs..........LPs????????

......you have to use Imperial Spanners.....don't you.......metrics won't fit the records....
  6. 1981-82-ish, and Keith Rylett was DJing, and Jo Wallace was dancing.... and I recall: 6x6 Earl van Dyke The Night-Franki Valli In my Lonely Room-Martha Reeves S.O.S-Edwin Starr ..and the punters kept requesting 'Intercourse', by Derek & Ray
  7. so, can you get me a copy of 'I wanna know'-"Jean Carter"??? Re the debate over CDs and he 'heresy' of playing them a rare soul do's, I shall be selling 'Soul Inquisition' uniforms, they will have a torch emblem on the chest....seriously though, 'only playing the 'original vinyl' (recall 45s vs LPs??) is a way of keeping things exclusive to those who can afford to pay silly(?) prices for a vinyl disc-a kind of tyranny of capitalism, if you like... ....as has already been said, the most important thing is the Dancefloor, and the sounds that get us dancing..

..No, I agree so much with that-C/U-ing is a silly game, IMHO.. Number one is rather strange!!! Number two-that sounds like a '70s Philly sound (hence £5???) Number three-gravelly voices-hmmm-David Ruffin??
  9. vnicepce replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
can you put them all on, so we can all join in!!!
  10. ............'Somebody (somewhere) needs you', 'dust my broom', 'things ain't what they used....'(?)
  11. Yes, I would guess, from the sound of it, that the Hallmark LP version is the later, it's more 'sanitized', (cleaner?) than the rougher, 'screamer', with the broody, Blues Piano tinkling away, in the background
  12. re the above, I idolize you' was on the Sue LP 'Ike and Tina Turners Greatest hits' (1964); I have a really scuffed copy (but playable, 'disc only) of this LP, I found after searching through PILES of Orchestral and Ken Dodd LPs, in a Charity shop (always knew I should visit that shop). There are two versions of this song, that I know of, at least...
  13. have you ever heard 'Country Living', by the Stylistics??-they made a lot of Cheese, but that is no too....

..Re the new material-perhaps its 'hard to play' because its not particularly good, as far as the crowd (or some of them) are concerned...I recall a thread concerning tracks that were 'played to death' this got me thinking-if its Good Soul with Good Production Values, a piece of Musical Art, in the faithful's eyes, how can it be played to death?; A tracks sheer class will mean that it will live on, and always want to be heard, by the faithful... P.S.-can I come and do an hour, at the 100 Club???
  16. anybody want some Abba LPs??-wot about an ELO one-no, how about this: someone upload a speeded up Sinatra, or Sammy D. Jnr track, for ex., as a 'new rare soul Find'
  17. ..I really agree with this..time is a great 'maker', in terms of a track's attractiveness...(no pun intended) ..thats what NS/rare soul is about, isn;t it, to an extent.....??? .....the James Walsh Gypsy Band track, is though, bettered by the 'B' side of The Trammps..'Hold back the night' !!!!!!! ....lets hear it for 70s; but NOT 'A touch of velvet, a..' (Craig Charles, last night, Funk Show)
  18. Re EBAY-perhaps it is worth realising that some funny tracks have come up as Northern Soul!!!, and when searching, set a limit of, say, 99pence!! :

Re Sharon Jones, and 'Obscurity Cred', she has already featured in the Mainstream Media, on Radio 4s 'Loose ends' Programme, around last Christmas |Time..
  20. this is a strange coincidence, because about the time this was written, I went into a Secondhand Shop, local to me, and found the above track, on '45, and Elvis' 'Let yourself go'
  21. .....I did listen to most of the tracks (if that is the correct term!) the only bearable one was the Undisputed Truth' track ..there is nothing like setting loose some charlie, who then tries to turn the Supremes into their Modern Day equivalent (R& ..has anyone lost the will to live, during those interminable intros, by these pretentious 'track twiddlers'?
  22. ..be nice to hear that...I always recall the DJ down here being asked for the track called..... .......INTERCOURSE......

If it's the "More Mirwood" sounding cut it's on one of those "Keep The Faith" LPs on Joy (part of President) issued in the 70s. .. ....and on the 'cream of rare soul CD' (Burning Airlines label?), of 2001(?)
  24. Re the annoyance that I.L. creates, amongst the fraternity; how about the ultimate revenge(?).......you position I.L. on the floor, and then stampede him, to the opening bars of say, 'cashing in', or if you want be eally aggressive, 'my weakness is you'
  25. Gladys Knight and the Pips-'I heard it through the Grapevine' Detroit Spinners-'I'll be around' Marvin G. and Tammi T.-'Ain't no mountain high enough'
