I do 4hr sets weekly at a couple of my residencies though they are bar gigs so I don't have to contend with requests. I've done one off 5 and 6hr dance floor sets and it's pretty tiring but if you like the records you are playing the time goes quickly. The trick is to take enough records so that the last hour isn't a jumble of records left over that don't really go together but not so many that suddenly your record is about to finish and you are still flicking through your box looking for the next tune. Toilet records are a must! I think I have committed every 4min 70's 45 I have to memory, I don't remember what they sound like though as I'm never in the room when they are on

If you are the only dj you know no one is going to play something before you which cuts the number of records you need in your box down.

The Charles Mintz goes for $50 -$70 USD I'm sure all those records would be on popsike or collectors frenzy

I don't know if it's partly the distance artists have to travel to get to Australia combined with their age but after Marva Whitney suffered a stoke when she got off stage here last year and now Syl suffering a heart attack whilst he was on stage, it's worrying. As much as I want to see these artists perform I hate to think it's at the detriment of their health. It's sad that their pay day is coming so late in life. The promoters are saying Syl has made a full recovery, which I hope is the case and not that he's pushing on to fulfill his tour obligations, not wanting to lose money.

Hope I'm posting this in the right place.... Has anyone picked up the 1st volume of The Soul Discography, I'm wondering how it stacks up against the R&B indies and what are the major differences apart from TSD having a later time line. Also is there much double up of information. Cheers Samantha
