  1. Horaces Records was my own label named after my nick name of Harboro horace that Randy Cozens stuck me with! It was a small label I ran in the late 80s/early 90s when everyone was switching from vinyl to CD and my work with Kent/Ace had slowed down. Ace were fully supportive of me and helped in most of the licensing. In fact I think they didn't want to do 45s at that time, so let me do it. The first release was The Magic Touch by Melba Moore, followed by Rosey Grier's In My Tenement and Hector Rivera I Want A Chance For Romance. I was then introduced to Eddie Singleton the Shrine label owner by Northern Soul DJ and producer Ian Levine and we cut a deal for two LPs and two 45s. Shrine was particularly "hot" at this time so many of the discoveries we made from this were very exciting for the Northern scene. I also cut a deal with Dore records owner Lou Bedell for some of his tracks; an LP and two singles resulted from that. So that's 3 LPs and 6 singles. Then I think my final release was Carla Thomas' unissued Stax dancer 'I'll Never Stop Loving You' on a 45 and though they all did OK, I wasn't cut out for the discipline of running my own label. My accounting and marketing skills were negligible. Luckily Kent then got involved in singles again so there's a much more regular flow of releases nowadays. Thanks for your interest Ady
  2. Any updates anyone? Also is their biggie on any CDs anywhere?
  3. It was the price of the gear that got me; way over the odds.
  4. And he played Market Harborough's Frollickin' Kneecap in 1968!
  5. The mush is so mushy I actually put my hands in front of my eyes at one point! (Like I did with Psycho but for totally different reasons)
  6. Tone, its on at one of the Leicester Square gaffs for a day or so
  7. Have they been naughty then?
  8. But did you cover it up and call it Fred Knoblock or something equally witty!
  9. I was just thinking that Malc; though he might have been a bit harsher on me than modest!
  10. Yeah that was from that era down the 100 Club. A Cotique label collector reckoned it never came out on a 45 but that's what I played it from
  11. I'm still waiting for the apologies from all those diehards who slagged me for playing Boogaloo down the 100 Club in the 80s, Harvey Averne, Hector Rivera, Bad Breath etc. What price Johnny Colon now? Just the 25 years ahead of our time then, Martin Peters eat your heart out!
  12. And although Randy and I put on a great night and kick started the London Northern scene, we didn't exactly save the Northern scene double handedly: though my ego is tempted to claim it LOL

Defo, but it'll be a while yet I'm afraid Ady
  14. A good little curiosity. There are surprisingly few mis-presses about when you consider the number of releases. Ady

Sorry, no. I'll try and get one up on the site, the third Nancy is up there though. Ady

It was originally played off a made up acetate from the master tape but a few years ago I found an original RCA 10" acetate at the publishers and have been playing that recently. I'm also playing the uptempo female version by Nancy Wilcox, as is Ginger. Ady
  17. Some of his unissued Ring recording 'It's Alright To Cry Sometimes' can be heard here https://www.6ts.info/audio.asp
  18. Yes and we're getting there slowly. There are also other unissued tracks out in LA.
  19. There weren't really any Atalntic recordings those were all recordings for Ray Charles Tangerine subsidiary label Crossover. This was neither, it was an independent Chicago production.
  20. Great stuff and it must be the same group as the Megatrons/Megatons whose 'Detroit Sound' on Laurie I used to play covered up in the mid 80s and we put out on a Kent LP of Laurie material. Eugene Thomas was the lead on that too. Any chance of licensing it from its owner? Assuming we'll get access to the tape of course? Ady
  21. That was issued a couple of years back on a Kent CD "Masterpieces Of Modern Soul Vol 2" Craig, Ady
  22. Thanks Dave, we'll put that in our CV! Do you mean why did we stop putting girly sounds on the CD comps? Ady
  23. The Motown gaff was owned by an oldish Wolvo bloke, who had frequented the Cats. He never came to the 100 Club but was speeding away merrily when I saw him. He collected the rents from all the market stalls on Portobello Rd. Boy George's brother was a regular!
