  1. HI ALL....Totaly agree with your point Pete, however in fairness to the 1oo CLUB ALL-NIGTER'S, for 17 years of giving out the Anniversary 45 to the paying public, I was given a copy from Mick, but the Demand and common sense of giving a free copy, to someone who does not go there, (I have asked to be put on the guest list at least 3 X) the real reason I don't go, is my mate Jim Silles, a 100 CLUB regular in the early days, stopped going, also the atmosphere reminds me of BLACKPOOL MECCA, nothing wrong with that, i suppose but it all becomes a we bit clicky, great people, I suppose I never gave it a chance, the last visit there, Mick said it's great here, I said yeh if you don't like rare up tempo soul?? The subject of geting yourself on a record company mail list depends on 2 factors only by promotion of the company's product, are you a DJ who plays to a large crowd or are you a music journalist for a paper (I don't no if Dave Rimmer gets free review stuff? I am sure he must) the last stuff I got was from Lawrence Cane Honyset from TROJAN Sanctuary Records, but nothing these days, DAVE

HI ALL.. BACK IN 72, I SAW THE ORIGINAL, BEING PLAYED BY BILLY MAC IN THE DIVE HITCHIN, HE MUST HAVE GOT IT AT THE TORCH, AND I AM SURE HE NEVER HAD ANY IDEA OF IT'S VALUE, I NEVER TOLD HIM! AND NEITHER DID MICK?? WE JUST WAITED FOR HIM TO SELL IT, HE NEVER DID, THE BOOT HAS THE INST, WHICH IS GREAT, BUT THE ORIG HAS A BRILLIANT B SIDE, DAVE
  3. HI ALL ....PETE YEH! maybe 25% as at least 2 copies would have been sent, again I seem to recall that RADIO LUXEMBOURG 208, had 5 DEMO'S, & many more of the BEATLES, 1962 LOVE ME DO, 45-R-4949 R&W DEMO,1st SOLD by the ROYAL RULER, SINCE THEN THEE HAS BEEN ABOUT 8, TURNED UP ALL REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN PLAYED FROM THE GRAN DUCHY?? I suppose it all depends on what PYE labels CAMEO PARKWAY, COLPIX, CHESS, AND ALL, Are limited to 150 and CP are by far the fewest, RED BIRD especially the SHANGRI-LAS REMEMBER, are about and easy to find compared to BESSIE BANKS DEMO, I was hoping that, things such as how many DEMO's where made by the different UK labels, would have already done, when I joined SOUL SOURCE?? but it still seams that MICK ROY RANKING JOHNNY BOY, YOURSELF & OTHERS. are the people to ask?? DAVE

HI ALL PETE your PS. are you turning into Richard Donuts, where is your profit if you paid your buying price?? Totally agree with you, about being hard to price! even more so since Paul Anka has been in-demand of late, Darrow Fletcher, DEMO has always been hard compared to the stock copy that's at least £60, little Antony £100 mint,, Precisions £50 classic, your £20 may be spot on, but who would sell it at that price?? in fact all the track releases ses are hard to find these days, you try and find the follow up single to Arther Browns 68 classic FIRE, or the WHO Under my Thumb??? anyway he is not selling, which means he must be buying?? DAVE
  5. HI ALL As promised, the SAM & DAVE, KING LABEL, UK. 2 ex sides, RECOMMENDED don't leave if you see it for sale,£25 DAVE
  6. Hi All I have to disagree with Pete, even though I think he was guessing, It's about 10% at the best, of PYE co DEMO with die cut centers, I personally have only about 5, I was told that they where die cut just for the Pirate Radio Stations of the time, also the US style Dinker was not used until the end of 66 any record that you may have with the US dinker was done by hand as a 1 of, the Die cut is pretty unique, I may be wrong, but this is the most plausible and logical answer. DAVE

HI ALL....AGENT, Here's my copy that I got at the Black Horse Wolves in the late 80's. shame NOC, While I am here this is a very rare SUE record Mockingbird by Inez Fox SUE301, IT'S GOT A TRIANGLE CENTRE?? DAVE
  8. Hi All ....Ken what I am saying and after seeing probably over a million 45s in my life (must be around that mark) the record you have in my opinion is much rarer than the more common release, as "cross my hart" is a far better record, and rare, Now record collecting is a strange world indeed, as Ted Massey the Midlands Top Rare Soul DJ said the other day on the subject of pricing & value of records, he mention the 80s and compared with todays prices, some records do not reflect the real price, I would go one step further and say it is sad that people spend so much money to pay for an in demand sound and not have a proper soul collection to fully understand why there record is so rare, rare does not mean it is a brilliant soul recording, well I don't think so anyway? When the Glen Miller "where is the Love" first got played, I was lucky to already have it in my collection, when I was told how much it was selling for within 6 months I had 6 copies that I got of collectors of Jamaican recordings, and was lucky to buy from a mate the 1st Jamaican STAG copy in the UK £30 from Andrew in Notts, I still have not come across another copy as all the STAG copy's that are about are 2nd issues on yellow & white label, where the 1st issue is mauve & silver, I have noticed that Glen Miller other record on Doctor Bird sells for stupid money, as it's rubbish not rare and a waste of money, there is some excellent Jamaican music about at £5-10 each why spend good money on crap?? To conclude your value of £20 is your value, but just think before you sell it, that out there are people who by all theses bootlegs of classic rare records for stupid prices? and one day they will try and sell them. only to find out the dealers will offer them £2 each if they buy them at all, one day calling a record rare will have a proper meaning. I was just lucky with the Glen Miller "where is the love" as initially I did not realize how rare the record was, although not in the same league "cross my hart" is rare and should be played as a quality SOUL SOUND, I am glad you play it. DAVE
  9. HI ALL ...... LUTON BOYS, CAN YOU REMEMBER THE 2 LUTON GEEZERS WHO GOT TURNED OVER FOR THE GEARE,IN THE TORCH, IT WAS ONE OF YOU? OR YOU WERE THERE??? MAYBE I AM OFF THE MARK, BUT I REMEMBER THOSE INVOVED GOT NO GEAR FROM THE SOUTH AFTER THAT LIBERTY TAKING DAVE
  10. HI PETE........Maybe just Maybe this will jog your grey matter, if I am wrong you got to lose a few more cells, I iz right I tells you?? DAVE WHO IS THE MUSH IN THE PATCHES LOGO? IS IT A LITTLE FROG??
  11. HI ALL.....the B side is 100% "Cross my hart" on the DEMO, STOCK COPIES that have "DEVIL" on the B are only worth half of the copy you have, and the DEMO is only worth a quarter of the price. Some may think that I have got it wrong! Ranking Johnny Boy. But for me it's all about the quality, in my opinion the DUCK is to good SOUL wise to the pop sound of mid 60s west coast bounce soul that James Carmichael & Randy Wood, put out, (in saying that, I Love the MIRWOOD SOUND). Cross my Hart, has Hit written all over, but our man Mr Freeman who is also known for his preference to Name the new dance type records (POP) that where so common in the 60s Dave Godin had a name for them which has eluded my GREY STUFF, If you have not got this record, and if you don't no it, I can some it up with 1 word SUPERLITIVEDTHEDRUGQUALITYSOULTHATHITSTHESPOTWITHALLITSGOTANDTHESOME! has this been played? back in 72 Mick Smith played it, af the DIVE in Hitchin Hertsm so does scratching BOOM! BOOM!. So I assume it was played at the Birds Nest, Shades and at lonely old farmyard barns in Bedfordshire, if you are a DJ spin it this week, I highly rate this GOODIE MS normally has a copy in his RARE UK Box, When I see what people buy and pay good $£$£ for crap. this is a soul sound DAVE DON'T DELAY! PLAY IT TO-DAY I TELLS TOU.
  12. HI ALL ....JOHN you are right, infarct bang on, and i must apologies to the seller, i have read his advert and he clearly states, CANADIAN COPY. However it did give me the opportunity to write, about the start of my BLOCKEYE! Problem, and a lesson to all the youngsters "the STONER TOU GET, the DRUNKER YOU FEEL" Don't you think so? or can't you wan't to. and crucial is what's the matter for you? as I said to a Copper from the DS, when being searched, "constanoon aftable" he quickly stopped the search and told me to piss of, shame as he would have got me, if he had continued"?? Back to the PYE records that come out in Eire, this is I am sure what Andy Spencer (UK SOUL Collector 70s/80s) had, when he showed me a Jason Knight on blue PYE, I always assumed that his copy was a UK release, as the original was issued on the cusp of the change of color from red to blue. he must of had the a Irish copy of the UK re-issue, Now has any one got a copy? DAVE. HERE IS MY COPY (SORRY I AIN'T GOT THE RARE DEMO!) LOOKING FOR A BLUE PYE COPY, DOES IT EXIST ON A IRISH PRESS. OR EVEN A CANADIAN COPY???
  13. HI ALL THE SHORTEST NORTHERN SOUL RECORD, THAT WAS PLAYED AT THE CATS, NOT SURE IF IT WAS PEP OR MAX R.I.P. IS THE VERY RARE, GORDENS GIN THEME, IT WAS COMPOSED BY JEFF WAYNE, AND VALUE WISE, IS NOT FOR SALE, I ONLY NO 2 OTHER COPYS, AGAIN THIS HAS BEEN STATED BEFORE, TO BE CLASSED AS NORTHERN SOUL, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLAYED IN THE GOLDEN AGE, IT HAS A SPOKEN INTRO OF 30" AND THE MUSIC FROM START TO THE END IT IS 60" = 1minute & 30 seconds, and it' on a UK LABEL, i reckon that it's the official shortest record played, unles you know better DAVE.
  14. HI ALL MY STATEMENT IS TRUE 100%, SOME PEOPLE MIGHT SAY I SHOULD NOT HAVE LEFT THEM, THE ONLY THING THAT MAY BE WRONG, IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE WIRRINA, ONLY THE PEOPLE WHO WHERE THERE CAN ANSWER, I WAS TOLD THAT SOME ONE FROM NORWICH HAD THEM BUT HE CLEARED HIS NAME, FROM MY VIEW POINT, I DON'T BLAME ANYONE BUT THEY WHERE ALL INVOLVED, NOW WHO WHERE THEY SCARED OF ME OR THE THIEF? OVER THE MONTHS SOME OF THE RECORDS TURNED UP, AND IF YOU FIND OR HAVE A RECORD WITH MY NAME ON IT IT WAS FROM THAT BOX? THATS WHY I WILL GET ANY ONES RECORD BOX BACK IF I AM TOLD WHOSE INVOLVED. FOR A FEE, I DO HOPE THAT BY STATING THIS IS TRUE, YOUR OPINION OF AN EVENT THAT LASTED 3 MINUTES 36 YEARS AGO THE FACT IS I WAS THE VICTIM , BUT I DONE WORSER, NEXT TIME YOU AE WITH YOUR MATES, TELL ONE OF THEM YOU SCREWED HIS WIFE, AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS, I USED TO THINK IT WAS FUNNY DAVE

I CAN UNDERSTAND CERTAIN PARTS OF THE TAX LAW LIKE JOHN'S POSITION, BUT HE IS A COMPANY CALLED MANSHIP, BUT MOST OF THE DEALERS WHO SELL SECOND HAND RECORDS DON'T PAY TAX?? HI ALL.... SITTING HERE AND THINKING OF THE EARLY DAYS OF MY RECORD COLLECTING WHEN I WOULD LOOK FOR THE CREDITS ON OBSCURE RECORDS THAT I DID NOT NO. AND JERRY'S NAME WAS ONE THAT WOULD MAKE ME BUY THE RECORD WITHOUT EVEN HEARING IT, IN FACT I AM SURE, WE PROBABLY ALL DID THAT WHEN JUNKING FOR DUSTY'S, RIP JERRY YOU WORK HAS BEEN A INSPIRATION TO MANY RARE SOUL FANS IN THE UK. DAVE KILWORTH
  23. HI BLETSONIANS.....BOAC BAD FULL OF G&C "HE MUST BEEN FLYING HIGH AS A KITE"! THE HISTORY OF THIS PERIOD IS FASCINATING, WELL FOR ME IT IS, AS GLEN BELLAMY SAY'S WHY IS IT CALLED NORTHERN SOUL, WHE CLEARLY HISTORY SHOWS THAT IN THE EARLY DAYS OF THE SCENE THE MIDLANDS WAS THE REAL MAIN STAY OF THE RARE SOUL SCENE, AND TO PUT THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE IF YOU PUT THE HOME COUNTIES & LONDON IN THE MIX, I WOULD SAY THE HARD CORE SOUL COLLECTORS FROM THESE AREAS WERE THE NUCLEUS OF WHAT TURNED INTO THE NORTHERN SOUL SCENE AND BY THEN IN THE MIX YOU COULD PUT WHITE & RED ROSES, NOW WE ALL NO PEOPLE FROM THE NORTH EAST AND SCOTCH PEOPLE WHO LOVE RARER SOUL, BUT THEY CAME TO US NOT THE OTHER WAT ROUND, THE SUBJECT OF STIMULANTS AND THERE USE, IS AS WE NO WAS THE BIG ATTRACTING, I FIRST HAD B&W IN 67 I NICKED THEM OUT OF MT COUSINS HAND BAD. SHE HAD A HAND BAG FULL (this was Chester's sister Maria, & her mate Joan Bradshaw, they use to go to the DOT in Cambridge and meet JOE W & LEGS) THAT SHOWS AND PROVES TO ME THAT SOUL SCENE HAD ALREADY STARTED IN 67 AS SHE WAS AN AVID MOTOWN COLLECTOR, EVEN NOW WHEN I HERE JIMMY RUFFIANS BABY I GOT IT, TRIGGERS MEMORIES OF MARIA & JOAN, RIGHT THROUGH THIS PERIOD ALL TYPES OF STIMULANT WHERE AVAILABLE, AS I HAVE STATED BEFORE IN 69 I USED TO BUY EVERY THING FROM THE CHERRY TREE IN WELGAR, THE SK&F FACTORY WAS IN SPITTING DISTANCE AND SITUATED NEXT TO THE SHREDDED WHEAT FACTORY? THE CHERRY TREE HAD THE BLUES-VILE CLUB, AND LIVE BLUES BANDS PLAYED THERE FROM TASTE TO CANNED HEAT, GREAT PUB, PILLS WHERE 80 FOR £1 CAPS WHERE 1 SHILLING AND METHADRINE 2/6d an amp, ( i would sit in the wimpy and poor it into coca cola and add 5 sugars). To my delight I heard people talking about putting ASPROs in coca cola to get high and story's that up north at the Twisted Wheel they paid a bob each for pills, to me the soul clubs meant money not records, of course I was just a small cog in a very small underground scene, that had emerged with no adverts just word of mouth, youngsters did the same in 88 with the raves, and they took easy baby, By 1974 there was hardly a chemist in England that had not been done over, However with RONNIE & REGGIE out the way the firm took control of the drug supply scene, the acid LSD scene was not under the FIRM, but the manufacture of amphetamine was, and the chemicals to use for it's manufacture were so easy to get all you needed was industrial dishwasher liquid ephedrine acetone powder hot plate and basic knowledge of chemistry a 1st year under grad and away you go, i forgot to add you needed Cambridge also as the stuff stiks and is very volatile, the base amfet was at least 5 times stronger than the stuff sold at all NIGHTERS and most of that had been cut, so many people who only ever took speed they got at all nighters if you had a great time well done but you where always being ripped of as the real stuff lasted for 2 - 3 days and tripped you out, then again maybe you where better of, as you all could be a JOHN OR JANE THE DRUG? IF ANYONE HAS QUESTIONS OR NEEDS ADVICE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT OR IS IN NEED OF TREATMENT YOU WILL FIND HELP IN YELLOW PAGES, OR PM ME AS A REG COUNSELOR BACP ETHICS APPLY. 100% CONFIDENTIAL, 20 YEARS OF PRACTICE, RCGP NHS TRAINED, DAVE K
  24. HI ALL ...TOTALLY AGREE PETE, IF HE GOT THE CASH I COULD REPLACE ALL THE CHESS LONDON, JUST LOOKING THROUGH THERE ARE SOME NICE BITS, SOME ARE LIKE A SORE THUMB, THE JERRY BUTLER DEMO FOR EXAMPLE, AS SOON AS IT IS OFFERED FOR SALE UNLESS IT'S TO UK COLLECTOR/DEALER I WOULD SAY THEY WOULD NOT NO THE PRICE, THIS WAS MY POINT ABOUT VALUE, THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS ALL THE CHEAP STUFF HE CAN HAVE BUT IF HE WANTS RARE 60S UK DEMO HE WILL HAVE TO PAY, TMG864 ISSUE EX CON HE CAN HAVE IF YOU PRICE IT JUST FOR HIM MR BLOE DEMO IS RARE GOT A VG+ OR I WILL GIVE HIM A FRENCH PIC SL COPY, IF YOU CONTACT ME PETE AS YOU NO I HAVE NO CASH SO YOU WILL HAVE TO POST THEM FOR ME,WOLVES RECORD FAIR IS SOON , AND GOOD NEWS I HAVE THE PUMA BACK ALL TAXED INSURED MOT, I HAVE WHEELS?? " GERTCHA COW SONS" DAVE K
  25. :hatsoff2:HI ALL... CHEERS FOR THAT? THE BLUE STAX LABEL ALWAYS REMINDS ME OF MY 1 st PROPER INTRODUCTION TO FEEL i WAS NOT A KID ANYMORE, AND MY ELDER BROTHER AND SISTER LET ME GO OUT WITH THEM ON A SATURDAY NIGHT, THE HERMITAGE (HERM) WAS THE LOCAL DIVE DANCE HALL, GREAT PLACE FOR A PUNCH UP, STEVENAGE MECCA WAS EXCELLENT. BUT IT WAS THE BOWS LION YC, THAT I ENJOYED, IT WAS 1OO% MOD, SUITS AND SORTS AND THE MUSIC THAT WE STILL LOVE TODAY, TYPICALLY THE BIG SOUNDS OF THE TIME WHERE PHOENIX CITY AL CAPONE GUNS OF NAVARONE , MOTOWN SOUL. i SAW GENO WASHINGTON THERE WARING MY BRUVVERS BLUE MOHAIR SUIT A SIZE TO BIG TO THIS DAY GENO WAS THE MAN, THE DANCING WAS BRILLIANT, THE JAMAICAN LADS RELAY COULD DANCE, FREDDIE MAC DJ ED AND BRUCE WICKS THE BLUE STAX RECORD WAS... "THINGS GET BETTER" EDDIE FLAYED, BUT ALL THE BLUE STAX RECORDS SOUNDED LIKE PROPER SOUL, I NEVER GOT "I LOVE LUCY" DID ANYONE BUY THAT RECORD AT THE TIME? DAVE
