HI "SOASH" i WAS JUST USING DAVE AS AN EXAMPLE THAT WAY BACK AT THE START OF THE SCENE, THAT EVEN THE GOOD GUYS ON THE SCENE,HAD TO KEEP A EYE OPEN TO THE LAWS OF THE UK, AS SUCH BACK IN 67 STILL ILLEGAL TO HAVE A SAME SEX PARTNER, AND THATS ALL, IT WAS A 60000000 to 1 chance THAT YOU WOULD SAY I USED TOD HIS MUMS HOUSE? AND I AM ALSO NOT HOMOPHOBIC, BUT BACK THEN EVEN THOUGH GAYS WERE NOT VILLAINS EXCEPT FOR RON & REG AND SOME MEMBERS OF THE BBC ALONG WITH HMS GAN-GEES, NO NO NOT REALLY, BUT DAVE DID BREAK THE LAW AND WAS NOT AS TRANSPARENT THAT ON MEETING HIM, I DON'T RECALL HIM MINCING OR THINK HE WAS GAY, I SUPPOSE IT WAS THE SAME WITH IAN IN BLACKPOOL, A MARDI FFER YES, ENOUGH OF THIS STUFF, IF THINGS COULD NOT GET ANY WORSE FOR ME, JUST A JIMMY AND I AM PEEING BLOOD, THAT GONNA MUCK UP MY NON ACTIVITY WEEKEND?// I AM NOT MAKEING THIS UP DAVE THE BLOOD,

HI ALL...I think you are point I was making and period that is also very relevant to my part in the discussion which is about Villon's who we knew who where on the soul scene, my original write up was on the early days and how our scene grew from a working class structure that was engrossed in what was scene as prim & proper, and over the ten years that had passed, introduced the country to a new demographic and a up Havel in society, in London Bristol & Liverpool they feel the society change and to hear the voice of young men & women turn from, at the age of 14 you become a man or woman, as it had been for the previous 50 years, and now they had all become teenagers, which in the main was despised by the elders who went to war, and as such were never allowed to question their elders, without a clip around the ear or the threat of corporal punishment, Sadly Dave is no longer with us, but I don't think he would disagree with my point of view, Dave was a good intellectual and even though I also met him and went to his shop and of course he loved the underground soul movement in the north existed and his fascination of the depth of it' membership would go to gain further knowledge about the many 100s of Black Americans who had given up every thing to gain fame but failed, while London was more in touch with the current scene and change of music style soul music in 1968 and the current affairs of the time such as wars famine space travel civil rights and a more liberal way of life, this meant of coarse challenge the old laws to new laws especially on race & equal rightest the age of 16 in 1967 my knowledge was gain through liefs e than through a good school education, as I was one of the kids at school that your mum told you to keep away from, so like yourself I had lived up north for 3 years in a kids home, as such through personal expedience i witnessed the north south divide, Back to Dave Godin my question is did you meet Dave or did you know Dave, as I met him but did not know him and the word he lived in was very much a big taboo, while John Abbey went to the Flamingo & Tiles, Dave would be more relaxed in Old Compton St, life back then was not as romantic as younger people think the 60s was like, for Dave it was much tougher & he run a very high risk of imprisonment, me I was just a teenage delinquent, once again we owe a lot to Dave, and I hope you can understand now where I was coming from as not everything is transparent, as it seems or as golden, Dave

HI ALL....SOASH, LOOKING AT THE QUOTE THAT I MADE..... It does look like I was talking about the Wheel still running, and you and I no it closed in 71, the point I was trying to identify where the man was coming from? as we were talking about the cockney reds, and as he was hiding behind his soul source identity it got me frustrated, as I was saying to him that back in the late 60s & early 70s the team that you supported was for most your local team only a small amount of people supported teams more than 50 miles away, normally it was people who lived in counties that did not have a team in the 1-4 Divisions, this is why people at the time who lived in Hearts,Bucks & Cambridge supported London teams as Luton or Norwich were not attractive enough, living in Hartford shire with London 30 minutes away on the train and 5 team pick from and most picked Spurs or Ares and all! I picked West Ham because of family connections to the club it could have easy been QPR as that was the other family team, back then Chelsea were nothing and most people with Irish backgrounds were QPR, and in the north the Irish followed Leeds. Also post 1967 many young people started to r afield and with the use of soft drugs such as speed, and the integration of BLACK & WHITE Youth, the working class kids went on what was traditionally fora in turf or a no go manor, the north was very alien to the people from the south east of England, and it is a fact, that relationships with Black people were healed by many white kids the liking for the people in the North, I believe people like John Abbey and Dave Goddin, had also picked up this LONDON prejudice to-wards the north, even record reviews in BLUES & SOUL pointed out that the north started at Watford and in the Dave Goddin column he talks about the north in a backward manor, "strange world of northerners listening to old Motown type music" and reinforces this by writing about when selling records from his shop by stating " that if a northern person entered the shop treat them different" I am sure that "god bless him" today his article that made him famous the world over would not have been written, going back to our cockney red Friend, t was if he was so knowledgeable about what happened at Upton Park he would have known me if he had been going to the Wheel, and what was his all nightie following it's closure, as he would have gone to the Cats TORCH & JUNCTION, I stand by my comments that I never met any Cockney Reds and the London I know cant remember them at the time he states and he would have been a target for a good kick in by the majority of 15 to 19 who supported any London team, To conclude i must state that MANCHESTER UNITED are one of the worlds greatest football clubs and do have supporters around the world, as for the issue of men acting like 16 year olds following football just to have a knuckle i say grow up, as an old bovver boy they are rubbish this includes members of the ICF THE SOUL CREW COCKNEY REDS AND SO ON, OVER THE YEARS THEY ARE PROVED TO BE WEEK AND ONLY FIGHT THE VULNERABLE, ONLY EXIST BECAUSE THEY ROAD ON THE BACK OF THE ORIGINAL WEST HAM NORTH BANK & CHICKEN RUN, AND HAVE NOTHING IN COMMON WITH THE SPIRIT OF 69, DAGENHAM DAVE TSOF 69 KIL
  5. HI ALL ...And cheers for info so far. is it me, but when I look for records on Ebay with so many Bootlegs that are on Evey page, why don't somebody get the rights and release good unreleased soul, instead of flooding the market with fakes, i am aware that this is an old chestnut for some, but i think it has gone way over the top, and whoever buys them, must still believe that they have a real value? where such a record like the one in this thread would be far more acceptable by myself, if this had been put on a single back in 84 it would have kept a value and had the collect ability to it, like ERIC & THE VIKINGS still has, my other point is i am glad that i collect UK soul 45s, as i would be right pissed of if I owned the original US copy, i no theres nothing like a rare record and as such it should not matter, but it would piss me off DAVE KIL

  14. HI ALL.... I'm sorry but I think your valuation is a we bit low for 2011, as I could never part with these 2, for under £100 in fact HEART TROUBLE in MINT CON as mine is, is worth £80. supermaket ful of cans is much cheaper, however I still need a DEMO copy, WILL TRADE THIS PHILIPENES ISSUE PLUS CASH if any one wishes to part with one, at PETES Valuation price?? HEART TROUBLE IS ONE OF THE BEST UK SOUL RECORDS, FACT DAVE HAVING READ THROUGH THE THREAD AGAIN, I THINK PETE WAS NOT REFERING TO THE UK DEMO BUT A USA COPY, IF SO SORRT PETE DAVE
  15. Hi ALL... Some how it it just don't seem to make sance, when you have a reply saying they are worth only 10p each. But that's the harsh reality of to-days record scene, 2 years ago I got 350 DISCO 45s for £22, all very nice tunes if you like this stuff, the simple truth is no one is going to give you more than 10p for KLF or the CROWN HEIGHTS AFFAIR, GEORGE BENSON. MELBA MOORE, AND SO ON UNLESS THERE IS AN OBSCURE B SIDE, that has got a play somewhere, one day maybe, but anything from 1982 on wards with a few exceptions (mainly unreleased US soul or reissue REGGAE, on WHITE US, STUDIO 1 or COXONE which sell for about £2 if you buy direct) I say keep them or give them to a youngster who wants to practice, in saying this, the rule is different for DISCO & SOUL 12" RECORDS, A s early 12" records are very collectible in comparison to 7" singles when was the last time you got a CONTEMPO 12"?? or a HIP HOP 12" PRE 84?? IT'S HORSES 4 COURSES?? DAVE DOUBLE DEX

  18. Hi All....A good question???? some things need sorting over a long length of time, this and similar reissues, semi legits, Bootlegs and so on, and needs the input of those who are in the know no! me thinks The Special Products Dept exists on all major and some small record company's, Promotion of any kind is fine by any record company, releasing a old record is easy today than ever, just look at the state of whats been on offer on Eba out & out counterfeit goods, when GODS dog was a pup! and all that, Can you remember when Cd's first come out, all the classic stuff that had you collecting for years was on sale in SAFEWAYS, the world was all of a sudden filled with soulfully knowledge, without spending, can you remember PETE SMITH selling 10000 soulsounds fo £20, where does it all go? by that I mean the knowledge, well it's back to School time, the MGM SP first issued a few classics in 1973 , with records by JACKIE FOLLET, DIANE BROOKS, ROBERT BANKS, DOTTIE CAMBRIDGE, Also at the same time, well a few months early the find of all the VERVE MGM stuff on Bradford market kept the demand down and the S Products just distributed to the UK. they are legit. the later blue vinyl MGM come out in 77 i think and the UK was color vinyl nutz also pic cover mad! and the recodes were shabby to look at and are BOOTLEGS, Maybe wrong, but I don't think the are worth anything, spin it over the garden fence and buy a MGM 1st issue or a Demo, DAVE
  19. Hi Al... And NICE ONE KEN! you are a diamond, as it saves me diggin around looking for it, I am sure this film only went to Hire Shops and did not get a release, if anyone wants to copy it! and make a few copys we could donate to the TORCH 11 CHARITY?? JUST AN IDEA, DAVE
  20. HI ALL, HAPPY EASTER Well it seems a long time ago now, but as a kid I only had 2 Holidays #1 Walton on the Maze.aged 6. and #2 Walton on the Naze aged 8,, and when I say holiday, they were a 1 day Beano. I don't recall anything from the 1st trip, but on Tip #2 i remember finding a tanner 6d and putting it in a juke box, out of nowhere came 3 older boys, much older they were Teddy Boys, they said to me "give me my Tanner back that I dropped on the Floor? we saw you pick it up" having removed the 6d from my snotty hands, they pushed me away and laughed, then ed ext thing I herd the sound of my 6d fall into the Jupiter, (the record started to play "Big Bad John" I did not want that I wanted Pat Boone Speedy Gonzales? and blow me down the next record was the one I wanted, and to this day, the memory of me having one over on the TED'S, tears later 1069 EASTER WEEKEND I finally got to great Yarmouth on my TV175 Series it's a long way from Hartfordshire, drove down the front and pulled into a caf.e just before you get to South Deans as i entered the caf the juke box was playing CREDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL BAD MOON RISING, I sat down with a HOT ROSIE and swallowed 5 Blues, the next record I can remember was just as the dubes started to kick in the UKs first REGGAE #1. DESMOND DECKER'S ISRAELITES this record along with half a dozen more become not just a part of me, but also a Pareto of everybody who had my ideals that year, so thanks DESMOND DECKER from the real SPIRIT OF 69. WHATS YOUR FAVE? DAVE
  21. Hi ALL....At THIS TIME OF DAY 5.50AM, I can't root about the House but a Classic Our Music Film is.....MOTOWN MUSTANG it's a MOTOWN FILM, my copy must be 20 yrs old and is on VHS, I don't no if there is a DVD of it... brief run down of the movie, a car worker in the FORD MOTOR CORP is working the line that builds the FORD MUSTANG, This is the car for him, and he intends to buy it, he even welds his initials on it, and the movie takes you through the years from 1964 to 1970. on the way we see the original MOTOWN STARS SINGING THEIR HITS,, SOUNDS NAFF!!!!! but it ain't, it's a must have classic ***** CAR WASH is another goo-die along with the BL AX Explosion of films Across 110ST SHAFT, SUPER FLY and so on. ALSO I recommend WATTSTAX the MOVIE filmed in LA district of WATTS, great film of the STAX LEGENDS, and Rufus Thomas in his PINK Shorts. HENDRIX & OTIS at MONTERREY 67 also Santana & HENDRIX at WOODSTOCK, LOVE & PEACE and HAPPY EASTER from ANN EGG (Dave K)
  22. Hi All..... It is my opinion that the silver A Demo, although looks nice, and UK collectors like to have Demos, the difference in price is not that great, about £5 - £10 tops added on, records like "What About the Music" by SPICE is rarer as an Issue, however as I don't have a copy I would sat that. ... To me it's a bit like the Black Tamla Motown Demo, they don't do much for me except the Northern Soul Demos, it's strange that some of the 70s 1st issues like MCA black London Brunswick Silver A Demos fetch less than the reddish Demos, It is nice to see that thing are changing Boy Demos are now worth 2/3 more than 10 years ago and some of the modern & crossover soul fetch more than the issue on the rare ones that is, It's a shame that so little is written about Promos & Demos as it ranks as one of the most important areas of collecting Rare Soul 45s, Pete Smith or Ted M are the ones to ask or even Mick Smith!! Dave
  23. HI ALL When you talk about retiring , what are you saying? that he is giving up DJ ing? and selling up and leaving the scene, never to appear again or is this the start of long standing DJ's cashing in before they are stuck with a load of records that nobody wants any more,? I hope it is not the latter. Butch is without doubt the #1 DJ and I mean that in the present tense, Like Baz I do not get out much, If this is true I must attend one of his last do-o's, Not quite sure who Mick H is of the top of my head, the only Mick H is Mick Holdworth from Wolves a great collector but did not no he was a Top DJ? Top Bloke yes, John Pugh Harpo & Pep are the DJ's that I like to here, with the greatest respect to Wolves Mick H, Any way good luck to them all and welcome to whoever gets the opportunity to take on the mantle of being a top Rare SOUL DJ DAVE
  24. Hi All I sold my one and only original copy in 1957, for what I considered to be a amazing amount of £30. as Pete says the counterfeit copy's are styrene, the original is vinyl, there is something about the original that even Theo the labels look the same, your 6th sence automatically tells you the vinyl is the real one, if you follow my logic, one of the great Northern SOUL tacks of all time, that's a fact, what's it go for these days??/:thumbsup: Dave
  25. Hi All As a collector of UK SOUL, the UK DEMO is the rarest, and the copy I would want in my collection, I have always had this opinion, I do like foreign pic covers, This is one of y all time favorite records from ur scene, I actually had the Reggae version first, and heired this at Blackpool Mecca played by Tony Jebb, it was a must have, from that moment on, it is a proper Classic NICE ONE DAVE
